Metcalf's Title 1 Reading Teacher is a specialized educator who provides targeted reading instruction to students identified as needing additional support in reading skills, in small groups or individually, within our Title I classroom. Our Title I teacher focuses on assessing needs, implementing research-based interventions, monitoring progress, and collaborating with
classroom teachers and parents to ensure students reach grade-level literacy proficiency.
Key responsibilities :
Student Assessment : Administer diagnostic reading assessments (Acadience) to identify students' strengths and
weaknesses, determine eligibility for Title I services, and create learning plans.
Targeted Instruction : Deliver small group or individual reading interventions using evidence-based strategies to
address specific reading difficulties like phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary
development.
Progress Monitoring : Regularly monitor student progress through formative assessments to track growth, adjust
instruction as needed, and communicate progress to classroom teachers and parents.
Data Analysis : Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions, identify trends, and evaluate the
effectiveness of interventions.
Collaboration : Partner with classroom teachers to align Title I instruction with classroom curriculum, share
student data, and discuss effective strategies for supporting struggling readers.
Parent Engagement : Communicate with parents about their child's reading progress, provide opportunities for
parent involvement, and offer strategies to support learning at home.
Professional Development : Stay updated on current research and best practices in reading instruction, attend
professional development opportunities, and share knowledge with colleagues.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
Teaching Certification : Valid teaching license with a reading endorsement or specialization in literacy instruction.
Reading Intervention Expertise : Thorough understanding of reading development stages, common reading difficulties, and
effective intervention strategies.
Data Analysis Skills : Ability to interpret assessment data and use it to inform instructional decisions
