The Morgan County Humane Society is currently looking for a full-time Animal Control Officer. You will work in conjunction with city and county officials to help enforce local and state ordinances concerning animals, educate the public about relevant animal regulations and humane animal care, impound animals that are at large, in danger, injured, or aggressive/dangerous and safely transport those animals. You will also investigate bites and/or attacks. You will also be responsible for all relevant reports and paperwork, as well as keeping said paperwork organized. You will regularly be exposed to all outside weather conditions.

This is a 40 hour per week position.

Hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm

Pay is dependent upon experience.

Position Responsibilities

Ability to handle all types of animals, including stray animals, animals with aggressive temperaments, and dangerous animals.

Complete required paperwork for each situation.

Maintain daily mileage logs.

Maintain confidentiality when necessary regarding animal investigations.

Provide general assistance to all police departments within Morgan County, as well as the citizens and animals of Morgan County.

Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and sanitary condition and ensure proper working condition on a daily basis.

Maintain and keep track of all equipment, tools, and supplies while following all job safety regulations.

Qualifications

Must be a Morgan County resident, 21 years or older, possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record, pass a drug screen and background check. Must be punctual, dependable, able to work well independently and as a team. Possess the ability and physical strength to handle, control and lift animals in excess of 50 pounds. Communicate well with the public, and follow procedure. Must have the ability to learn and apply applicable laws and be knowledgeable in community relations. Must demonstrate a high degree of organizational, planning, and problem solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form. Must love animals. Attention to detail, problem solving, and a high degree of independent judgement are a must.

Preferred But Not Required One (1) year of animal handling experience, and/or one (1) year prior law enforcement experience (i.e., law enforcement, traffic enforcement, security, public safety, corrections, and criminal justice)
