Job Title: Design Engineer
Reports to: Engineering Supervisor
Position Status: Full-Time, Salaried
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
A Design Engineer will execute custom designs for customer-specific applications for manufacturing. The engineer will be challenged with a balance of projects for active orders and work towards Morgan Li’s projects.
The Design Engineer will employ design strategies to fulfill successful execution of projects based on customer requirements. The engineer will work with the Project Managers, Account Managers, and Manufacturing Engineering to scope potential projects, innovate design ideas, create prototypes, review possible improvements, perform validation testing, and complete cost analyses to determine pricing which will be profitable and competitive.
The Design Engineer works to ensure all Morgan Li’s products provide a high-quality level that meets customer expectations. The engineer will be part of the approval process to ensure that the different products leaving Morgan Li are fully operational, effective, and free from defects. Verifying the quality and performance of the products, in addition to troubleshooting, and the rectification of any existing errors or defects, are the primary duties.
Other collaborative duties will be related to providing sizing and specifications for custom designs and overall production support for other engineers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Selects commercial components and materials of construction for individual parts and assemblies.
- Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, strength of materials and other physical sciences to check and/or complete drawings.
- Checks and approves detailed drawings done by others prior to fabrication.
- Revises assembly, detail drawings, and bills of material as required.
- A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
- Complete 3D design and 2D drawings based on specifications for each application.
- Work on “Ongoing” Morgan Li’s projects to bring new designs and production capabilities into the business.
- Generate unique design solutions for customer-specific applications.
- Generate full production documentation and bills of materials for production.
- Communicate with the production department and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve part fabrication, assembly, and testing issues.
- Handle post-production issues with projects.
- Regularly meet with the engineering team to discuss strategies to improve design practices and efficiencies to improve quality and increase throughput.
- Process ECRs to capture all changes or errors caught during production.
- Establish a framework for necessary contributions from various departments and facilitate their collaboration.
- Work alongside project management teams to successfully monitor the progress and implementation of engineering projects and initiatives.
- Assist other department engineers in creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and creating them for other members of the team.
- Account for possible project challenges or constraints and proactively seek to manage challenges.
- Provide detailed specifications for proposed solutions, including the time and scope involved.
- Define clear goals for all aspects of a project and develop steps for their proper execution.

- English required
- Spanish is a plus
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field. 3 years of Design Engineer experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally dealing with sheet metal, tubing, wire and wood.
- Exceptional design skills, technical abilities, and knowledge of industry-specific equipment and applications.
- Experience developing product design for manufacturing.
- Experience in determining the best use of resources to meet the goals of assignments received in the form of objectives.
- Strong SolidWorks and PDM experience.
- Basic computer skills required, such as knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
