Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Operations Manager and the Food Service Supervisor, the kitchen team is responsible for advancing the mission of Morgan’s Camp through food services. The overall responsibility of the food service team is to provide meals, snacks, and beverages to campers, guests, and staff while maintaining a safe and clean kitchen and dining facility. The role of the dishwasher is the backbone of the food service team. This position is responsible for providing prep support to cooks and ensuring the availability of clean dishes for use in meal prep and serving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Departmental Direction
- To wash pots, pans, utensils, dishes, bowls, plates, glasses, cups, and kitchen equipment by hand or machine, as needed.
- Apply proper sanitation procedures by camp policies, along with appropriate state, county, ACA, and other regulatory standards.
- Monitor the dish return area to ensure it is accessible and ready to be used by guests at all times.
- Assist in kitchen and dining hall setup before each meal.
- Sweep, mop, and clean the dishwashing area and kitchen.
- Assist with meal cleanup
- Remove all trash from the dishwashing area, kitchen, and dining room.
- Assist in basic meal preparation and service.
- Help with camp clean up & Housekeeping as part of the daily routine.
- Ensures all aspects of cleaning and sanitization strategies comply with safety standards set by local, state, and federal regulations, insurance, and the ACA.
- Provide support for camp activities.
- Participates in ongoing professional development and maintains an understanding of current best practices.
- Actively support and promote a safe environment and ensure that proper safety precautions are being followed.
- Mitigate risk whenever possible and make safety recommendations to all departments.
Knowledge of
- Ability to understand and adhere to local, state, federal, and ACA health and safety regulations.
- Understanding of Kitchen & Dishwashing procedures and skills, and ability to execute these.
Qualifications
- Some Prior kitchen experience is an asset, but not required
- A basic understanding and knowledge of cleanliness
- Commitment to the mission and core values of Morgan’s Camp as well as the implementation of these values in all daily work activities.
- Must possess high levels of self-motivation, attention to detail, and time management.
- Ability to exercise independent thinking and initiative.
- Ability to deal with complex situations or issues and make effective, timely, and appropriate decisions.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a fast-paced office and outdoor environment.
- Much physical effort required on a routine basis: ability to use up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
- Standing almost 100% of the time during a shift.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
- Work requires a lot of physical agility for doing the majority of assigned work, including but not limited to: bending for items below or reaching for items above the individual; crawling under desks; stooping, and climbing step stools or ladders.
- Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
