Job Summary:
The Accountant I or II is a key member of the local accounting team and is responsible for delivering results and providing accurate data and results for Morning Fresh Farms, LLC (Platteville, CO) operations. The Accountant I or II maintains adequate accounting policies and controls and assists the controllership in execution of these controls. They provide accurate and timely analysis as directed. In partnership with the accounting team, proactively identify improvements for month-end close, financial reporting, payables, compliance and other general accounting functions. May assist in managing fixed assets, cash forecasting, budgeting, cost accounting, maintaining/enhancing internal controls, variance analysis, financial reporting, etc. This position requires a willingness to learn, be accountable, and be accurate. Accounting, financial acumen, and data and analytic skills will help this person be successful in the role.
Essential Job Functions:
- Follows and helps ensure compliance of federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), federal acquisition regulations (FAR), and cost accounting standards (CAS) and company developed policies and procedures.
- Continuous improvement.
- Supports month-end close and is responsible for the preparation / review of various account reconciliations.
- Helps with preparation of month end accruals
- Fixed asset accounting, depreciation, amortization and construction-in-progress tracking and capitalization
- Inventory and feed accounting
- Assists in performing operational analysis, trends, projections, and forecasting vs. month budgeted KPI's.
- Maintains knowledge of developments and trends in finance and administration including technological advances.
- Assists in variance analysis. Compares actuals to projected results and prior year actuals.
- Supports providing accurate information for audits and filings.
- Provides ad hoc reporting as requested from internal stakeholders.
- Other opportunities / assignments will follow based on performance and results.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
- Understanding of ERP systems and how your stewardship activities affect other areas and processes within the organization and ERP.
- Ability to understand operations' systems including manufacturing batching systems, warehouse management systems, poultry flock management systems and their interfaces with the ERP.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively present information to others. Directors, managers, peers and others in the organization.
- Ability to lead people, delegate, and hold others accountable to results.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting with relevant experience
- 0-4 years of accounting experience with escalating responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Proficient with accounting related software for mid to large corporations
- Experience with Power BI or other data analytic tools
Travel: Ability to travel 5-15%
