Job Description

Reports To: Accounting Manager

Summary:
This position, under general supervision, is primarily responsible for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and cash receipts. The position will work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure accurate recording while sustaining the company policies, procedures, and approval processes.
Responsibilities:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for completing the following tasks and activities:
- Interact with staff, clients, community members, and others in accordance with Morningside’s Mission and Values.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information relating to vendors, clients, referral sources, and other company records.
- Responsible for Accounts Payable; including setting up and maintaining vendor accounts, entering vendor invoices, purchase orders, and timely payment of invoices. Communicate with vendors to ensure charges are accurate and that payments are received promptly. Ensure expenses are recorded in a timely fashion, properly coded, and posted to the correct account.
- Responsible for Accounts Receivable; including setting up and maintaining customer accounts, accurately creating sales invoices, distributing, and timely collection of invoices. Communicate with funders/clients to discuss account status, charges, or discrepancies. Complete invoice corrections, prepare and distribute monthly aging reporting to management and leadership.
- Under general supervision, complete bank ACH and Bill Pay transactions.
- Review and approve work performed by others on the accounting team as assigned.
- Prepare monthly Accounts Receivable analysis and reports for Leadership.
- Respond to supervisor, employee, and funder questions to resolve issues, disputes, or discrepancies.
- Cross train and provide backup for other accounting tasks as assigned.
- Assist Department Managers and Supervisors to complete financial-related tasks accurately and in a timely manner through one-on-one training, error explanation, and coaching.
- File and maintain records including electronic records and emails.
- Proficiently operate work related office equipment and computer programs.
- Plan, develop, and manage daily schedule of tasks and activities required to complete assigned responsibilities to defined performance measurements (accountabilities) and to meet individual and departmental goals. Maintain accurate records

Skills, Education and Experience: The following lists the minimum or desired skills, education and experience required for the role of Accounting Specialist:
- Three years’ experience in full range business or non-profit accounting required. College or technical training in related fields preferred. Understanding of GAAP accounting principles. College or technical training in related fields preferred.
- Pass any/all required background checks.
- Incumbent shall complete all training as required by applicable laws and regulations; funder contracts; and as directed by the Accounting Manager.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data
