So, what is Community Protection?
The Community Protection Program is a voluntary program throughout Washington State intended to provide a structured, therapeutic environment for persons with community protection issues. This program allows the participants to live safely and successfully in the community without re-offending while minimizing the risk to public safety. These individuals have offended or have exhibited behaviors with the possibility of offending. Individuals in this program are monitored 24 hours a day to participate successfully in their community. Employment is part of their rehabilitation, and Morningside’s Creative Employment Program is designed to help rehabilitate this group. The program is guided by a Treatment Team responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the person’s individualized supports and services. The team consists of a client, their case resource manager, therapist, residential provider, employment program provider, and the person’s legal representative and/or family.
The basic function of the CP Career Consultant is to work directly with clients in the Community Protection program to vocationally assess, train, and support clients assigned to them and provide intensive one-on-one visual and physical support to ensure the growth and development of the client while ensuring the safety of the client and those they may meet during working hours.
What you’ll do: The following additional responsibilities are unique to the specialty of CP Career Consultant:
- Responsible for meeting client training goals and objectives and the organization, direction, completion, and quality of assigned production operations.
- Vocationally assess, train, and support assigned clients; in conjunction with other appropriate staff, coordinate and implement established objectives according to the Individual Employment Plan.
- May direct client activities through intensive one-on-one visual and physical support.
- Maintain designated level of interaction between client and others.
- Redirect and diffuse disruptive, and escalating behaviors calmly using approved and acceptable techniques.
- Responsible for the safety of self, staff, clients, and individuals that may encounter in contact with personnel or clients during work hours; constantly evaluate the physical environment to minimize and/or eliminate potentially hazardous situations.
Unique Accountabilities: The following additional accountabilities (measures of performance) are unique to the specialty of CP Career Consultant:
- Ensure the safety of self, staff, clients, and individuals that may encounter in contact with personnel or clients during work hours; constantly evaluate the physical environment to minimize and/or eliminate potentially hazardous situations. Unique Authorities: The following additional levels of authority are unique to the specialty of CP Career Consultant:
- Able to determine the scope, content, and parameters of the training and coaching needed to meet or exceed the goals and parameters of the clients Individual Employment Plan. Unique Skills, Education, and Experience: The following additional required skills, education, and experience are unique to the specialty of CP Career Consultant:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the approved and acceptable techniques for redirecting and diffusing disrupting and potentially dangerous client behavior.
- Detailed knowledge of the policies and rules of the Community Protection program.
- Complete Community Protection Training. Unique Working Conditions:
- The following additional or different working conditions are unique to the specialty of Community Protection Coordinator: Stress of working in conditions with clients who are in the Community Protection Program

- After being trained, identify, and implement supports and accommodations to assist the client to meet or exceed their vocational goals.
- Be able to determine the scope, content, and parameters of the training and coaching needed to meet or exceed the goals and parameters of the client’s Individual Employment Plan.
- Be flexible! Be able to support your clients during their working hours.
- This position is highly visible in the community, requiring interaction with a variety of employers, funding sources, and businesses in a wide range of environments, including marketing, education, and working with clients throughout their employment.
