The School Math Specialist will play a key role in establishing a strong foundation of academic rigor and a vibrant school culture at Morongo School. This individual will set high expectations by guiding and coaching teachers to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
Reporting to Education Administrator, the Math Specialist will serve as an instructional coach, focusing on the development, implementation, monitoring, and support of instructional improvement plans across all campuses to elevate student achievement in Math. As a critical lever in improving student performance, the Math Specialist will build teacher capacity by deepening their understanding of Common Core standards and Data-Driven Instruction by facilitating professional development and teacher individual support.
Working collaboratively with certificated staff, the Math Specialist will promote teacher reflection and instructional growth, provide guidance through modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching, and offer constructive feedback to improve classroom instruction. Additionally, the specialist will support teachers with student interventions and differentiated instruction, ensuring that all students receive targeted academic support. The role will also involve addressing the needs of GATE students and neurodivergent learners, ensuring they have access to appropriate resources and strategies tailored to their unique learning styles.
• Through ongoing coaching and support, the Math Specialist will maintain a strong pulse on the school’s instructional needs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring all students receive the high-quality math education they deserve.
• Work individually with staff members and collectively across multiple grade levels to improve instructional practices in Math.
• Provide instructional leadership and support by exploring and implementing effective practices aligned with school frameworks, standards, and instructional and social-emotional programs.
• Design, deliver, and facilitate professional learning opportunities.
• Assist teachers through peer coaching, classroom observations, and peer feedback to enhance instructional effectiveness and support strategies for all students, particularly those in targeted student groups.
• Support teachers in establishing appropriate instructional objectives, assessing student progress, and selecting instructional materials, including technology, aligned with Morongo School's goals and initiatives.
• Demonstrate culturally responsive and technology-rich lessons while conducting classroom observations to support a variety of teaching and learning approaches.
• Provide guidance to teachers in monitoring student achievement and planning classroom interventions to meet the needs of all students.
• Assist in ensuring instructional articulation across various grade levels.
• Work collaboratively with the Educational Services team to analyze student achievement data and cultivate a school climate that promotes professional learning communities.
• Work with the Educational Services team to plan and implement professional development through training and coaching, focusing on increasing teachers’ knowledge of instructional strategies, best practices, and effective use of curriculum materials.
• Support teachers in using benchmark and curriculum-embedded assessment data to improve instruction and apply common collaboration protocols for data analysis and instructional improvement.
• Work cooperatively with other instructional coaches and administrators to achieve a coordinated instructional program.
• Actively participate in professional meetings, required training, and weekly school learning/support sessions.
