SUMMARY: The Adoptions Coordinator is responsible for executing day to day adoptions activities, developing and implementing adoption programing, and providing excellent customer service and support to new and returning adopters. This position works closely with other members of the Lifesaving Team to ensure that adoptable animals are effectively promoted, properly matched with adopters, and adoptions are recorded accurately. They are directly responsible for the overall coordination of the adoptions program.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES*:
- Screen, onboard, and build relationships with adopters
- Respond to adopter email and phone inquiries in a prompt and professional manner
- Conduct meet-and-greets and supervise safe and respectful interactions between adopters and animals
- Process adoptions and counsel adopters in introducing new animals into their home, as well as veterinary and behavioral needs of the animal
- Maintain accurate online listings of adoptable animals, including creative and well-written bios and engaging photo and video content
- Assist with ensuring supplies needed for adoptions are stocked and neatly stored
- Provide compassionate and patient support to customers with post-adoption behavior/medical concerns
- Support Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator in evaluation and selection of animals for offsite adoption center(s) and volunteer activities
- Support Foster Coordinator in sending animals to foster care as time allows
- Coordinate Adventure Tails day trip program and collection of promotional content to expedite adoption pathways for dogs
- Develop adoption program protocols and projects
- Follow department protocols and policies, ensuring to support Open Adoptions practices and philosophies, keep accurate records, and complete opening and closing procedures
- Maintain continuing knowledge of the current animals available for adoption and a thorough understanding of their medical and behavioral needs to make good adoption matches
- Ensure a culture of high quality customer service for both internal and external customers
- Treat all animals (including humans!) with kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van
- High School diploma or GED and some college, trade, vocational school, college, or further education preferred
- In lieu of educational credentials, applicants with equivalent work experience will be considered
- Must be proficient using a computer
- Knowledge of Gmail, Google Drive, Shelterluv Animal Management Software, and Microsoft Office Suite Programs is a plus
- Previous experience working in animal welfare, shelters, or rescues is required
- Must be knowledgeable in domestic animals including breeds, behavior, appropriate housing, common health ailments, and disease symptoms
- Experience coordinating adoption programs, foster care programs, and animal placement in/out of shelters is a plus

- Comfortable working humanely with animals of unknown disposition and those who many exhibit medical problems
- Self-motivated and able to work on program growth and development independently
- Detail-oriented and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to lift 50 lbs

HOURS: FLSA STATUS – EXEMPT POSITION
INTRODUCTORY ASSESSMENT PERIOD: The introductory assessment period runs from the date of hire for three months thereafter. For employment in any position with Morris Animal Refuge, this introductory assessment period is the period during which the specifics of the job are learned. During this period, either the employee or Morris Animal Refuge may end the employment relationship without notice or prejudice.
