Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our aerospace machine shop team. This role is ideal for an individual with expertise in structured problem-solving, fixture and tooling knowledge, and a basic understanding of CNC programming principles. The successful candidate will have a strong background in process design, process improvement, and developing and maintaining detailed work instructions. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies and formal process improvement training, such as Green Belt or Black Belt certifications, is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
· Process Design & Improvement: Design and implement efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes for the production of precision aerospace components. Continuously identify, analyze, and improve existing processes to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.
· Structured Problem Solving: Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams) to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules.
· Fixture & Tooling Knowledge: Develop, evaluate, and improve fixtures and tooling used in machining and assembly processes to ensure optimal performance, quality, and safety.
· Work Instructions: Develop, update, and maintain clear and concise work instructions for manufacturing processes, ensuring they are aligned with quality standards and efficient production practices.
· CNC Programming Support: While not a primary responsibility, apply basic knowledge of CNC programming principles to support machinists, program optimization, and troubleshooting of machining operations.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality, engineering, and other teams to ensure smooth workflow, accurate production timelines, and that products meet the highest standards of aerospace quality.
· Process Documentation: Ensure that all processes, changes, and improvements are thoroughly documented to maintain consistency, traceability, and compliance with aerospace industry standards.
· Training & Support: Provide technical support and training to shop floor personnel on new processes, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions.
· Compliance: Ensure all processes adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards, with a focus on continuous improvement in line with industry regulations.
Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
· Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a precision machining environment, preferably in the aerospace industry.
· Problem-Solving Expertise: Strong background in structured problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis.
· Tooling & Fixture Knowledge: Experience designing, evaluating, and improving fixtures and tooling for machining operations.
· CNC Programming Principles: Basic understanding of CNC programming principles and machining processes.
· Process Improvement: Experience in process design, process optimization, and continuous improvement.
· Work Instructions: Proven experience in developing, updating, and maintaining detailed work instructions.
· Training & Development: Ability to train and mentor shop floor personnel on process improvements, work instructions, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Process Improvement Certification: Formal process improvement training such as Green Belt or Black Belt certification is strongly preferred.
· Aerospace Experience: Prior experience working in the aerospace manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
· CAM Software Knowledge: Familiarity with CAM software (e.g., NX, Mastercam) is a plus.
· Lean Manufacturing Experience: Familiarity with Lean methodologies and Six Sigma principles is a plus.
