Job Summary: Instrument Operator operates and maintains all survey equipment, work under the direction of the Party Chief, collects and downloads survey data, directs loading and storage of equipment and maintains safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Understand procedures and operation of all surveying equipment, i.e. Static GPS, RTK, GPS, conventional total station, data collectors, levels, pipeline locator and magnetometer.
• Ensure that all equipment is in proper working order.
• Provide daily maintenance and security of equipment.
• Report all damaged and defective equipment to appropriate Supervisor.
• Supervise and assist with loading of equipment, boats, off-road vehicles and/or marsh master.
• Mentor/train rodmen on proper survey procedures and operation of equipment.
• Assist Party Chief as needed with daily operations including review of project related drawings.
• Complete daily status forms prior to departure from office.
• Participate and conduct JSA and BBS observations.
• Adhere to MPH Safety Policy and Procedures.
• Proper storage of equipment.
• Monitor job area safety.
• Preparation of field notes; understand how to write and read field notes and maps.
• Pay attention to the access route to the job site in the event they have to drive out.
• Assume responsibilities of party chief in their absence.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
• Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
• Must regularly lift and /or move up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass a physical exam and drug screen.
