Salary: (Unlicensed: $25.77/hr. - $28.43/hr.) (Licensed: $28.16/hr. - $31.06/hr.)
Position/Job Summary:
The teacher is responsible for development and implementation of the academic program, documentation of state and ORR assessment standards, report cards and supervision. The position provides supervision in the education setting and supports the program’s behavioral model.
Position/Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide academic instruction consistent with the students’ academic development, literacy and linguistic ability. Course instruction includes varying levels of English (ESL), Spanish, Math, Science and Social Studies courses.
- Provide educational instruction in groups identified by the students’ needs, abilities, and level of educational competency. Deliver educational services in a programmed, structured classroom setting for six (6) hours per day that follows the school calendar for the academic school year calendars and summer school calendar developed by Morrison.
- Administer an academic assessment within the first 72 hours of admission.
- Provide linguistically appropriate educational materials.
- Regularly assess each student in the programs to determine individual educational competency levels.
- Provide a syllabus of curriculum covered at least once a year.
- Participate in developing and maintaining an educational program which meets ORR standards.
- Maintain appealing classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Maintain records as required for classroom documentation.
- Provide Weekly or Monthly educational updates for ORR case file documentation (as needed per program)
- Help arrange, supervise and provide transportation for scheduled field trips.
- Develop professional relationships with community resources to acquire curriculum materials to enhance the learning experience for students.
- Participate or facilitate classroom team meetings, staff meetings, and committees as needed
- Manage classroom behavior utilizing proactive intervention strategies and positive highlighting program model.
- Help supervise, coach and motivate clients with physical education programs.
- Develop and implement written weekly lesson plans, meeting individual student’s needs, provides applied learning activities that are active, student directed, project based and integrated.
- Completes timely and accurate timesheets and other personnel/administrative records as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to equity and inclusion in the workplace; model appropriate behaviors; develop, recommend, and implement improvements to business practices with awareness and understanding of the impact in a trauma-informed and culturally diverse organization.

Required Position Qualifications:
- Licensed by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for assignment as a teacher OR
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree and Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) /Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification (TESOL)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal. Must clear a language proficiency test in Spanish.
- Attained age 21 years or older before first day of employment in position (ORR)
Preferred Position Qualifications:
- Prior experience with adolescents in a school or mental health setting
- Understanding of other core subject areas such as physical education, science, advanced mathematics, GED preparation.
- Knowledge of adolescent developmental issues, trauma, abuse and neglect, substance abuse and dependence, delinquency, peer influence, and related group and individual interventions.
Other Requirements:
- Able to work shift hours and days, as assigned. Position may require work outside of usual work hours on occasion.
- Pass a criminal history background check though Morrison and a suitability determination investigation through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. For further information review : https://www.opm.gov/suitability/suitability-and-credentialing-faqs/
- Position may require working at multiple ORR Program sites
- Current CPR and Standard First Aid required
- 40 hours of required training per year.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Ability to perform physical restraints of clients up to 200 pounds.
- Visual acuity allowing for analysis of written data.
- Ability to provide visual and auditory supervision of youth outdoors and indoors during activity.
- Manual dexterity allowing for operation of routine office equipment (computers, telephone, fax, copy machine, typewriter, calculator, etc.)
- Physical dexterity allowing for reaching, stooping, and repetitive motion of wrist, hand or fingers.
- Ability to remain calm and emotionally available in an environment serving youth who have experienced trauma.
