Job Summary
Provides prompt billing and collection of insurance receivables. Completes follow-up on accounts to identify and resolve reasons for non-payment. Communicates with insurance companies, patients, physicians, and attorneys regarding claims and account balances.
Essential Functions
- Performs all billing and collection tasks associated with insurance billings in a timely manner.
- Performs all insurance follow-ups on delinquent claims.
- Resolve all credit balances.
- Edits and transmits claims electronically.
- Retrieve balance and apply electronic remittances.
- Responds to inquiries from patients, insurance companies, attorneys, physicians and the general public in a courteous and prompt manner.
- Insures all payments, discounts, and adjustments are applied properly.
- Performs and assists with mailroom and cashier functions as needed.
- Orders and maintains office supplies.
- Performs skip-tracing functions.
- Performs Internet searches on insurance company websites.
- Dispense petty cash within established policy guidelines.
- Maintains knowledge of equipment and continuously learns new technology and is able to trouble shoot equipment, report malfunctioning equipment and ensure its repair and return to service.
- Participates in Unit based Quality Improvements Projects and routine Quality and Environmental monitoring.
- Meets department specific standards and measures.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of Morrison Community Hospital.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Associates degree in a business related field preferred.
- Two years of experience in a computerized health care billing system preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to maintain a calm professional manner in stressful situations.
- Must be able to use independent judgment.
- Must be willing to cross train in other insurance carrier procedures.
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring.
Compensation:
Pay Range $16.99-$25.13 per hour base
