The main responsibility of this role is to carry out various accounting tasks, such as processing detailed transactions, reconciling general ledger accounts, and conducting basic account research, analysis, and resolving discrepancies. This position involves interaction with the Board of Directors, Management, and operational staff.
Essential Functions
This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of job duties, and the position will perform other duties as assigned.
- Support all accounting functions related to billing, payables/receivables and cash management functions and investments. Ensures the accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
Functional areas include:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system, core system and departments.
- Accounts Payable –Process invoices submitted for payment ensuring correct General ledger accounts, maintain and process all recurring invoices. Verify all disbursements have been properly authorized with proper supporting documentation. Schedule and process all payments.
- Bank Reconciliation – reconcile cash accounts weekly.
- Investments, accurately post all investment income and verify and balance accrued interest on investments monthly.
- Perform month end transactions such as accrued interest on investments, accrued interest on loans, prepaids, fixed assets and accruals.
- Reconcile various general ledger and external accounts daily and prepares necessary clearing general ledger entries.
- Reconciles work by analyzing, researching and verifying GL information and comparing system reports to balances.
- Complete monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
- Quarterly completion and submission of Federal 5300 Call Report.
- Generate yearly Budget along with input from CEO/Manager.
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
- Assist Examiners and auditors, during periodic examinations and audits.
Education and Experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or in a related field or a combination of education and experience, credit union experience a plus, which provides a level of skill and knowledge necessary to satisfactorily, perform the essential job functions.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting.
- Previous experience with General Ledger, reconciling accounts and Month-end closing.
- Comply with financial policies, regulations and procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP).
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft office tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and member service skills.
