Weights and Measures Inspector
Position Summary:
The Weights and Measures Inspector is primarily responsible for carrying out the duties assigned to the
County Auditor within the Ohio Revised Code regarding the Auditor’s capacity as the official sealer of weights and measures for the County. These duties include verifying the accuracy of all weights and measures of every kind, instruments and devices for weighing and measuring, and any appliances and accessories associated with any such instruments and devices. The incumbent in this position will have a wide range of latitude in scheduling his/her time and travel to most efficiently and effectively perform the duties of the job. This position is Unclassified and reports to the County Auditor.
Representative Duties:
1. Regularly conduct on-site verification of various weights and measures devices throughout the county. These site visits will include (but are not limited to):
a. Scales of all types
b. Gas Pumps and other liquid measuring devices
c. Vehicle capacity scale
d. Test bulk fuel & LP trucks
e. Checks contents & weight of packages
f. Price verification (e.g. shelf price vs. checkout price)
g. Issues citations
h. Prepares reports and maintains records, as appropriate
i. Places Auditor’s seal confirming compliance with standards
2. Complete required training to acquire and maintain appropriate certifications as required by the Ohio Dept of Agriculture.
3. Maintain the proper certifications of the equipment used in doing W&M inspections.
4. Work in cooperation with the ODA and private contract providers to verify large and/or specialized measuring equipment.
5. Respond to consumer complaints concerning W&M issues.
6. Maintains a schedule for inspections.
7. Maintain W&M inspection records, complete required reporting to the Dept of Agriculture, and retain copies according to applicable regulations.
8. Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the County Auditor .
Qualifications for the position:

4. A minimum of a high school diploma along with an ability to learn the technical aspects of the position.
5. Must successfully complete certification through the Ohio Dept of Agriculture within 18 months in the position.
6. Must possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Critical Skills/Expertise:
- Ability to properly use a variety of required tools and equipment;

- Knowledge of Federal and State Manuals, which set standards and minimum tolerance for
Weights & Measures
- Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions using judgment, and analytical skills, including strong mathematical skills;

Physical Effort and Work Environment:
- Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of the position are identified as requiring the lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently.
- Physical Activity: The physical activity of the position is climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, lifting, grasping, reaching, standing, talking and hearing.
- Visual Activity: The minimum visual activity of the seeing job is close to the eyes and at or within arm’s reach.
- Job Location: The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Working Conditions:
- The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to working both inside and outside and being exposed to temperatures ranging from below 32 degrees to above 100 degrees for periods in excess of one hour. Individual may be exposed to minor hazardous conditions such as harmful cleaning agents, chemicals, dirt, fumes, odors, gases, oil and dust.
