ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
1. Operates telecommunications console to receive calls for assistance; determines nature and urgency of call (e.g., emergency, service, information, etc.) and priorities response; receives and transmits radio communications ( e.g. dispatches patrol officers, fire, and EMS personnel, and equipment for purposes of law enforcement, traffic control, accident investigation, motorist assistance, fires, medical emergencies, etc.); scans status charts and computer screen to determine units available; logs and records calls; monitors multiple frequencies and patrol units; contacts support services as necessary (e.g., highway patrol, municipal police, fire, ambulance); responds to inquiries and requests from general public and handles complaints; monitors 911 emergency lines and takes appropriate actions.
2. Operates law enforcement computerized information systems (e.g. LEADS, NCIC, CCH, etc); communicates with officers/officials; interprets messages and responds according to established department procedures; takes and furnishes information in reference to criminal record checks (e.g. social security number, driver’s license number, vehicle registration, warrants, etc); provides direction to officers and routes information to appropriate person, department or agency.
3. Maintains accurate communications log (e.g. telephone, radio and message control); uses in house computer system (e.g. updates daily information; enters and deletes warrant files on computer system; input data on prisoners, stolen vehicles, missing persons, stolen property, etc); prepares reports and maintains related documentation as required (e.g. search files, writes notices, processes cards, etc).
4. Monitors closed circuit television security systems for sheriff’s office facility (e.g. jail, booking room, front lobby area, parking lot, etc); monitors alarm board for county and municipal business and services (e.g. stores, banks, schools, etc.); notifies business owners of problems or damages discovered by officers; contacts key holders.
5. Greets and assists visitors to department and provide service (e.g. copies documents, prepares receipts, etc); receives and makes calls on vehicle impounds and releases; acts as liaison between field units and station supervisor; may assist in processing prisoners; may receive and record bond and license postings and receipts.
6. Performs clerical and support duties as necessary (e.g. assist with records processing; contact legal personnel and county court officials; notifies officers of court schedules and maintains same; copies and distributes materials; inventories supplies; prepares form; cleans offices, etc.)
7. Attends staff meetings, training sessions, workshops and seminars as required.
8. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
9. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
11. Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of: FCC rules and regulations, LEADS computer operations; public safety radio dispatching procedures; 911 terminal operating procedures; geographic layout of jurisdiction; safety practices and procedures; department policies and procedures; law enforcement procedures and methods; public relations; community resources and services; office practices and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have home phone or cell phone.
2. Must have own transportation.
3. Must be able to greet the public and have a good working relationship with other employees.
4. Must have good attendance record at prior jobs.
5. Must be able to work under emergency conditions.
6. Must have prior computer experience and be able to type.
7. Must be high school graduate or GED equivalent.
