Summary:
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Electrical Superintendent for our Power Delivery Services Group. This role requires someone who can interact effectively with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic, and efficient while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate electrical projects within the building site's scope
• Ensure high-quality installation of electrical components, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction
• Provide drawing, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team to ensure compliance with specifications and contract documents
• Partner with the Sr. Superintendent in formwork selection, equipment sizing, and site utilization planning
• Work with the Sr. Superintendent to develop project schedules and updates, as well as create 3-week look-ahead plans
• Ensure work teams have necessary resources and support
• Supervise and ensure quality control of the work team, including self-performed and subcontracted work
• Manage interface with personnel responsible for connecting the project power grid to the existing distribution system
• Supervise installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables
• Attend and participate in project meetings, providing liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components comply with drawings and specifications
• Ensure correct implementation of the Mortenson Project Quality Plan (PQP) and assist in developing and updating project control logs and QC documentation
• Oversight of electrical sub-contractors
• Review/monitor subcontractor procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look-ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activities
• Work with engineering staff to ensure accurate and timely transmission of plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs to subcontractors
• Monitor Safety, Quality, and Efficiency of subcontracted work on every project
• Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents
• Ensure crews have necessary resources and support
• Implement, practice, and enforce the Mortenson Zero Injury Program
• Produce various reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions for equipment use and energization of circuits, and written Methods of Operation (MOPs)
• Establish and nurture a teamwork environment
• Provide work direction and performance evaluations
• Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed
• Develop leadership potential through task assignments and career growth opportunities
• Manage open shop and union issues
• Maintain relationships with visitors to the site, including customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, and others
• Manage site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvement
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 12 years experience working with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of transmission/collection lines, and substation construction
• Minimum 13 years of supervisory experience
• Proficiency in installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium-voltage cables
• Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing
• Working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioning
• Current driver's license
• Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methods
• Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methods
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
• Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
• Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
• Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
