The Pipefitter is responsible for installation and repairs of all pipe lines, valves, hydraulics and steam, gas vacuum and sanitary lines throughout the Plant. Repairs and maintain all types of pumps and related equipment. equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Lays out, installs and repairs all pipe lines, including steam lines, compressed air and vacuum lines, gas, oil, water, and brine lines and some flexible rubber and copper lines. Cuts to length and threads pipe, connects fittings, and installs valves and gauges, by screwing, flanging, cementing or welding processes.
- Cuts packing. Tests, inspects and maintains sprinkler system. Insulates pipes and vessels. Inspects firehose house equipment and fire extinguishers. Operates fire pumps in connection with routine inspections. Must be thoroughly familiar with upkeep and adjustment of steam traps.
- Works from blueprints and verbal instructions. Uses plumber and steam fitter tools. Operates pipe cutter, thread cutters, and bending machines, in cutting, threading, bending, filling, burring, reaming and caulking pipes, couplings, unions, elbows, gates, valves, and flanges. Also performs necessary welding using gas or electric equipment.
- Works to sufficient accuracy to meet necessary underwriter's standards of safety in plumbing and pipefitting work. Must also be experienced in installing and repairing any sanitary fixture throughout the office and Plant. Works with cast iron, steel, brass, copper, lead, plastic, glass, and fiberglass pipe, tile transite, soil pipe, lead solder, lubricants, and insulation of various types.
- Checks pipe and fitting stock and takes inventory at required intervals.
- Will diagnose pump problems, dismantle, repair, and align plumps or related equipment. May repack and adjust packing. May install mechanical seals. Performs rotating shaft alignment to close tolerances. Performs coupling, maintenance, inspection and lubrication. May do oil changes
- Reports any damage to machines or equipment or spoilage of material to immediate supervisor. ·
- Maintains work area in neat and orderly manner. ·
- Observes all Federal, State and Company safety and health regulations. ·
- Performs all related Good Manufacturing Practices and keeps records as required. ·
- May be required to do other duties related to the job.
