Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Mine Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Mine Maintenance Foreman, Mine Mechanic A does expert level troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, repair, and construction work in the mine.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Has expert / leader level knowledge of one or more of the following skills and has a working knowledge of most of the remainder, i.e., electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, pipe fitting, hydrolytic, diesel, and other internal combustion engines, machine tool setup and operation, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repair, construction, maintenance and installation.
- Able to troubleshoot complex equipment and apply best practices to successfully repair and maintain top of the line mining equipment.
- May do some painting and carpentry work.
- Occasionally will assist in training those with lesser skills and may maintain fire fighting equipment.
- Work under a minimum of supervision.
- Frequently direct the works of others of equal or lower classification.
- Operate all plant tools and is able to read and work from most blueprints and interpret construction knowledge of shop mathematics.
- May do some routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspection of equipment, buildings, and attachments.
- Able to locate and remedy trouble in most of the plant’s various machines, equipment, and installations in the field of the skill or skills in which he is proficient.
- Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair.
- Performs other duties of a related nature, as directed.
- Normally requires over (3) years training and experience to qualify.
- One-year general shop experience and one year in a specialty.

Must be able to obtain an appropriate blasting license at the time of hire / qualification and maintain during employment
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Work Environment
- High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote safe workplace
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly
- Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary
- Must be able to work at heights as required
- Must be 21 or older and obtain a Blasters License with ATF clearance.
