Description

Intro: Mosaic’s clinical specialist has a unique role. They provide mental health support for kids and teens with developmental disabilities, comprehensive support for serious incidents, and debriefing for staff in a strengths-based and person-centered perspective and approach. The Clinical Specialist works closely with everyone on the team to support function, collaboration, and communication. Individuals who live here are beautifully unique and require love and attention above what others might. General challenging behaviors targeted for reduction by residents may include: self injury, physical aggression, sexualized behaviors, property destruction, elopement, etc. We provide comprehensive care and support for residents who live at Mosaic Manor, an Enhanced Behavioral Supports Home in Santa Cruz.

Job Title: Clinical Specialist 

Job Duties:

a. Provide Mental Health Services for Residents, including individual, group, and family, as indicated for each resident’s specific needs

b. Address mental health and trauma needs for residents (CBT, DBT, Expressive Arts, psychotherapy, etc.)

c. Provide therapy with residents’ consent in non-clinical settings, such as the backyard, private areas of the home, or the community

d. Provide Case Management for residents, as needed

e. Complete Mental Health Assessments for each resident, minimum yearly

f. Maintain Documentation of Mental Health progress for residents and provide summary monthly to members of the Individual Behavior Supports Team (IBST)

g. Read and be familiar with clients’ Individualized Behavior Support Plan (IBSP), Individual Program Plans (IPPs), and agency program design for all clients

h. Review Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence (ABC) logs and narratives of incidents, as needed

i. Offer debriefing for residents and staff after a serious incident occurs

j. Provide, when available and needed, Crisis De-escalation with residents

k. May assist with the administration of medications to residents once a registered Direct Support Professional (DSP)

l. May assist with the transportation of residents as needed

m. May assist with the care and supervision of residents as needed

Support for Staff:

a. Offer opportunities for staff Debriefing after serious incidents.

b. Facilitate three rounds of monthly training and clinical supervision (not for licensing) for all Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) in collaboration with Administrators and other members of the Clinical Team

c. Develop monthly content for staff off-site training with BCBA collaboration

d. Provide staff onboarding training for mental health services, review of residents, teaching and review best practices for DSP/RBT, professional boundaries, professionalism, and address burnout and compassion fatigue

e. Support DSP/RBT in developing a variety of skills

f. Provide Treatment Integrity Observations for Mental Health related Interventions for DSPs/RBTs

Administrative Support with Treatment Plans, Team Collaboration, and Documentation:

a. Collaborate with BCBA to complete the required state, licensing, and regional documentation for serious incidents and debriefing, which may require on-call support

b. Develop and maintain integrity for Antecedent Interventions for DSPs/RBTs to utilize with residents

c. Facilitate monthly meetings and development of slides for each resident’s Individual Behavior Support Team (IBST) meetings

d. Collaborates with BCBA and implements training skill programs, behavior management programs, and sensory stimulation programs inside and outside of the home as designed for all residents

e. Assists with preparing and submitting residents’ Individual Behavior Supports Plan (the written report) monthly with facility administrator/QBMP assistance.

f. Participates in IPP meetings for all clients

g. Maintains accurate documentation of client’s responses to programs such as but not limited to behavior intervention and sensory impaired programs (i.e., life skills, behavioral, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), community-based programs).

h. Participates in meetings with consultants regarding the programming

i. May review written incident reports before the report is sent to monitoring agencies to gather additional input and develop action plans

j. Support resident-specific program development (schedules, activities, and programming)

k. Develop and maintain relationships with local services like Hospitals, Law Enforcement, and Behavioral Health Services Departments

5. Maintain clinical licensure

6. Follow and maintain good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications/Education

1. Prior experience providing mental health support to kids and/or teens (advocacy experience a plus!)

2. Must be a Licensed Clinician with the Behavioral Board of Sciences of California; LCSW is preferred.

3. Become a registered behavior technician within 180-days of initial employment

4. Must have a valid California Drivers License and a good driving record

5. Must meet Guardian fingerprint clearance (DOJ, FBI, and CACI)

6. Must maintain annual First Aid and CPR certification

7. Pre-employment physical exam with medical clearance by a physician (including negative TB test or x-ray result) as well as ability to lift 40 pounds and walk significant distances (eg. 2 miles)

8. Must pass the Challenge Test or complete the competency-based training program DSP 1 and 2 as mandated by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) within the first year of employment

9. Previous management experience a plus

10. Excellent communication skills and reading and writing in English

11. Experience working in a behavioral setting

Reports To: Director

Work Schedule: Dependent on the client's needs and living arrangement but includes on-call duties for emergency assistance as specified by the Administrators and Director
