ESL Instructor - Fixed Term- HEU Project part-time

DEPARTMENT: Employment, Language, and Social Enterprise

POSITION FUNCTION:

• Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members.  The class is fully online composed of asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS, synchronous workshops via Zoom and Office Hours-short 1-on-1 meetings with clients.
• The 17.5 hours per week would have the following expectations:

• Asynch Sending teacher messages, emails, feedback 10 hrs
• Zoom Delivering Zoom session. Same session 3 times. Tuesdays: 9am - 10am and 3:30pm - 4:30pm Wednesdays: 10 am - 11 am - 3hrs
• Office Hours Talking to students 2hrs
• Prep Admin Weekly meeting, marking attendance, changes to curriculum 2.5 hrs
• Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and goal setting and responding to those needs
• Create a warm, inclusive and safe online learning environment
• Assess and provide feedback to  students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and best practices of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
• Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.  
• At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods. Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience an asset.  
• Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).  
  

COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.56 per hour

HOURS: Part-time 17.5 hours per week

Fixed term April 1, 2025 - July 31, 2025

BENEFITS: A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
