Position Summary: The Asphalt Paving Preparation Crew Member is responsible for supporting the paving team by performing a variety of tasks to ensure the job site is properly prepared before the paving process begins. This role includes working alongside the paving crew to prepare the surface, transport materials, and maintain a safe, organized work environment. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Preparation: Clear and clean the job site, removing debris, vegetation, and other obstacles from the area to be paved.
- Surface Grading: Assist in leveling and grading the surface to ensure proper drainage and smooth application of asphalt.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport asphalt materials, tools, and equipment to the appropriate areas of the worksite.
- Equipment Operation: Proficiently operate equipment, such as skid steers, rollers, and other machinery required for surface prep tasks.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and maintain awareness of potential hazards on-site. Ensure the worksite remains safe for all personnel.
- Coordination with Foreman: Communicate regularly with the Asphalt Foreman and crew to ensure that all prep work is completed on time and meets project specifications.
- Quality Control: Assist in monitoring and maintaining the quality of the prepared surface, ensuring it is ready for asphalt paving.
- Cleanup: Ensure that the work area is kept clean, tools are properly stored, and the site is left ready for the next phase of the project.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in construction or asphalt paving prep is preferred.
- Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor, varying weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of asphalt preparation and surface grading techniques is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
- Driver's license required; CDL preferred.
- 5 years of equipment operation experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for long periods.
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Construction sites with potential exposure to moving equipment and heavy machinery.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
