Required Qualifications:

1. Possess a Washington State Career and Technical Education Teacher Certificate or meet qualifications to obtain one. A requirement for certification includes a minimum of 6000 hours work experience in firefighting and emergency medicine related industry.

2. Current or recent (2 to 4 years) successful experience in the fire fighting and emergency medicine or related industry.

3. Completion of Bloodborne/ERASR Training is required as a condition of employment.

4. Demonstrated understanding of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices that support effective instruction.

5. Demonstrated knowledge of needs of diverse learners and strategies for addressing these needs.

6. Understanding of appropriate local and state standards.

7. Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff and district patrons.

8. Evidence/demonstration of use of technology to enhance student learning or willingness to learn.

9. Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks.

10. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, teachers, school administrators, support personnel, and community members.

11. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Preferred


Qualifications:

1. Ability to work and supervise students in classroom and hands-on application settings.

2. Ability to develop and promote the fire fighting and emergency medicine program.

3. Desire to work with high school junior and senior level students in developing their knowledge and skill to be employed in the fire fighting and emergency medicine industry or to continue on in post-secondary education.

4. Knowledge of current firefighting and emergency medicine skills and techniques.

5. Evidence of a thorough knowledge of skills needed to teach in a Fire Fighting program.

6. Evidence of training or experience using technology and real-world applications to enhance teaching and learning and relate to the Fire Fighting curriculum.

7. Demonstrated ability to align Fire Fighting Technology curriculum with the state essential learning requirements.

8. A team player who works cooperatively within a school context and organization.

9. Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles-basic levels and extensions beyond basics.

10. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance to the youth leadership requirements of the program.

11. Demonstrated success in maintaining a safe, positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.

12. Satisfactory evaluations.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Teach Fire Fighting to high school juniors and seniors at Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center (CB Tech).

2. Teach and model lab safety.

3. Maintain safe, orderly and clean lab facilities/equipment.

4. Participate in the curriculum development process with an emphasis on integrated curriculum and alignment of course competencies with the essential academic learning requirements.

5. Work with post-secondary institutions to develop articulation agreements.

6. Incorporate new and emerging technology into the instructional process.

7. Become involved with partnerships with the building community.

8. Attend all advisory committee meetings.

9. Supervise and support student work-based learning opportunities through clinical experiences, job shadows, and internships.

10. Be a “team” player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships.

11. Implement Technical English competencies within the program.

12. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

13. Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.

14. Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain a current working knowledge relevant to their field.

15. Be committed to success for all children.

16. Believe cultural diversity is a strength and have the attitude that we will meet the needs of any child who enters our school.

17. Be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating in other needs for use of facility.

18. Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

1. May be required to travel between buildings and occasionally attend workshops and conferences with the region or state.

2. Required to work flexible hours and schedule which may include some evenings.

3. Expected to prepare the classroom for the start of school and prepare the workspace or room for summer cleaning after the last day of school.

4. Classroom/office environment which includes frequently walking, occasional lifting, and bending, stooping, kneeling and keyboarding.
