Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A)

Special Services District-Wide position

7.00 hours per day /180 days per year

Shift time is subject to building needs.

General Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Communication Technician Apprenticeship Program certification or certificate of proficiency - S.L.P.A. or AAAS Degree.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Accurate and efficient at completing tasks on time without close supervision.
• Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers.
• Must be able to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certificated staff.
• Willingness to work at multiple school sites.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find acceptable.
  
  

Specific Job Responsibilities

• Assist the Speech Language Pathologist in screening procedures.
• Carry out individual treatment plans as set up by the SLP without direct supervision.
• Perform ongoing documentation of students' performance and progress as well as maintain/organize students' records.
• Attend meetings as directed.
• Previous instruction and experience with speech and language disabilities are preferred.
• Knowledge of the educational and social impact of speech and language disabilities is preferred.
• Understands all aspects of Individual Education Programs for students.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a team of professionals and parents in implementing Individual Education Programs.
• Travel as needed.
• Communicates with appropriate staff and students' caretakers to accomplish job duties.
• Assist Speech/Language department with purchasing equipment and supplies.
• Willingness to receive training as needed.
