Mothership's client, a leading pharmaceutical company, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support their team in Newark, DE. This position will provide essential assistance to department operations. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks to maintain laboratory efficiency, ensure cleanliness, and prepare materials for laboratory use. This is a hands-on position requiring attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
This is an onsite W2 contract position with duration of 6 months, and possibility of extension.
Location: Newark, DE
Pay: $18-20 per hour
Schedule:
- Days: M-F
- Hours: Flexible (7:00 AM–4:00 PM, or 8:00 AM–5:00 PM or 9:00AM-6:00PM)
- Training Period: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM (for the first 2–3 weeks)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the daily operation of a microbiological testing laboratory.
- Receive, unpack, and organize customer samples for laboratory processing.
- Prepare customer returns for processing and assist with laboratory inventory.
- Under supervision, discard customer samples and operate laboratory equipment, including a laser cutter.
- Perform routine cleaning of laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Restock consumables and materials required for sample processing.
- Properly dispose of microbial cultures, chemicals, recyclables, sharps, and glass.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, SOPs, and MSDS/SDS sheets.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and assist with ad hoc tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or Associate degree in Microbiology or related discipline required.
- Experience: 0-2 years of related experience in a laboratory setting.
- No certification or licensure required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Effective communication and listening skills.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands for handling tools and equipment.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with team members.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
Work Environment:
- General office and laboratory working conditions.
- The noise level is typically quiet.
- Protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, gloves, closed-toe shoes) are required when working in the laboratory area.
Additional Requirements:
- System/Network access required.
- Pre-employment screenings, including a TB test and respirator fit test, are mandatory.
