Position Summary and Duties
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join Ultimation an MCE company. This role focuses on conveyor systems design and implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design, overhead conveyors, chain conveyors, and roller conveyors (MDR, CDLR), and will be proficient in using SolidWorks and AutoCad to create detailed models and drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations for drives, shafts, cylinders, and bearings to ensure system integrity and performance.
• Design and detail conveyor components in 2D and 3D using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Create Assembly Bill of Materials (ABMs) and Work Orders for manufacturing and purchasing departments; address related inquiries promptly.
• Collaborate with project teams to develop effective solutions to technical challenges in a timely manner.
• Review and verify the accuracy of drawings from team members before release to manufacturing or subcontractors.
• Develop AutoCAD conveyor layouts, ensuring efficient material flow and system performance.
• Work closely with project managers and installation teams on-site as needed to ensure successful system deployment.
• Conduct site visits for meetings and field assessments as necessary.
• Perform chain pull calculations with drive balancing and drive dropout capabilities based on customer specifications.
• Provide Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) documentation as required.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Stay current with the latest customer specifications and revisions, ensuring all designs comply with updated standards.
• Oversee and coordinate with engineering subcontractors selected for projects.
• Offer start-up assistance to project managers and superintendents as needed during system commissioning.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
• Minimum 5 years of experience
• Experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and proactive attitude.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to create clear written notifications and Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to identify scope of work changes and create detailed change order requests.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in the design and implementation of various conveyor systems on conveyors (gravity, powered, chain-driven live roller, motor driven roller etc.).
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in conveyor system design and material handling.
• Knowledge of FMEA and FEA methodologies.
