Job Description
The main function of a systems administrator is to install, configure, and support an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system. A typical systems administrator is responsible for monitoring the network to ensure network availability to all system users and performing necessary maintenance to support network availability. Job Responsibilities: Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, network hardware, mobile devices, systems software, applications software, and all configurations. Perform disaster recovery operations. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and vulnerabilities and replace defective components when necessary. Skills: Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service, and organizational management to prioritize multiple project action items and manage time effectively. Basic ability to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements, knowledge of computer hardware and software related to LAN/WAN and desktop PCs. Education/Experience: An Associate’s degree in a computer-related field is required, with a preference for a four-year degree in IT related field. Two to four years of professional experience is required.
Key qualifications include:
- 2-4 years of professional IT experience
- Strong knowledge of network hardware, desktop PC hardware/software, and basic infrastructure (routers, switches)
- Experience with Active Directory, ERP systems, and system administration
- An Associate’s degree (preference for a 4-year IT degree)
