POSITION SUMMARY:   This position directly interfaces with our production and engineering departments.  Duties include designing and building fixtures for mechanical and electrical testing to support our electromechanical production, configuring and tuning systems for laser testing, and reviewing electrical RMA’s.  The position requires basic electrical skills (reading and creating schematics, multimeter use, and knowledge of current and voltage principles), and troubleshooting of mechatronic systems.  The candidate for this position should be highly hands on in nature and will be largely be self-managed.  Ideal candidates will have a technical degree in Electrical or Mechatronics with 0-5 year’s experience.

Basic electrical skills, using multimeter and oscilloscope

  • Knowledge of electrical circuits
  • Electrical box building experience
    • Knowledge of techniques for electrical cabinets for safety and grounding
    • Circuit breakers and fusing
    • Following and creating schematics
  • Some motion experience a plus, but will train the right individual.
    • Servo drives and motors, including tuning and configuration.
    • Stepper drives and motors
    • Ballscrews and leadscrews
    • Linear motors
    • Feedback devices, especially optical encoders
  • Report Writing
    • Must be proficient in MS Word, and be able to write multi-page technical documentation.

  

Responsibilities within the corporate office and coordinating with factories/principals:

  • Coordinate Motion Solutions phone tech support activities with Inside Sales/ Field Sales.
  • Cross over Motion Solutions distributed parts as replacements for competitor’s parts or systems that are on OEM machines or an end user machine control specifications.
  • Communicate customer/prospect’s application requirements to Motion Solutions personnel that may be assigned to assist sales efforts (Inside and Outside Sales Associates)
  • Develop technical training materials to train across organization.
  • Wire and burn in all custom electromechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Develop and present electrical schematic/BOM to facilitate the quoting and manufacturing of electromechanical sub-assemblies. Document all the electrical changes in the sub-assemblies.
  • Prepare demo equipment/materials to present to customers/prospects as well as in-house use.
    • Check all demo equipment to be in functional working order
    • Set up linear actuator testing stations for production department
    • Train production department staff on proper wiring and test procedures on assemblies.
  • Communicate with the factories’ application department on technical issues unresolved at Motion Solutions.
  • Engage with outside suppliers for quotes on electrical components/cable subassemblies and coordinate ordering activities with Purchasing department.
  • Meet regularly with Mechanical Engineering/Production Department to discuss current projects
  • Manage the RMA process of interfacing with factories, customers and Inside Sales

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fundamental Understanding of Electric Motors: Stepper and Servo Motors or other Motion Systems
  • Understanding of manufacturing and high speed pick and place production machines
  • Proficient in using oscilloscopes and multi-meters
  • Ability to solder and use hand crimping tools
  • Proficient in reading Electrical Schematics
  • Presentation skills in public speaking/demonstration of motion products in front of engineers
  • Oral and written communication skills (English) at an engineering level
  • Troubleshooting electrical problems over the phone or at the machine location
  • Cognitive reasoning ability including critical thinking and problem solving
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Be capable of writing BASIC codes for motion control products, Visual C or C
  • Ability source passive and active electrical components: switches, enclosures, cables, etc.
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Customer focus & project  management in responsible and timely manner
  • Pricing (strategic pricing planning & scheduling)
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage several projects at the same time.
  • Experience in using engineering drawing software: VISIO, AutoCAD,
  • Ability to use good judgment in handling difficult situation



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE   

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline. Previous experience within the motion control industry is preferred.


SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role of the Electrical Engineer is vital to assisting the Field Sales person to establish sales/technical credibility at the specified accounts. The position interacts with a variety of internal and external personnel.  The individual must be equally at ease when interfacing with company Presidents as with Project Engineers.  This individual defines the customer’s image of Motion Solutions.
