What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Operations position at Motional?
In this role, there will be regular interaction with cross-functional teams, executive leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies. This position requires strong leadership and people skills, the ability to problem-solve, proactively identify issues, and develop and communicate action plans.
WHAT YOU'LL DO :
- Manage a large operations team of 100 employees, including responsibility for overall budget, asset management, prioritization, team structure, and development.
- Drive an excellent safety culture by leading safe and efficient operations.
- Serve as the key interface with stakeholders and lead cross-functional programs to achieve strategic goals, enhance operational efficiencies, establish processes, and develop key supporting assets.
- Identify areas for operational improvement, lead efforts to streamline processes, manage key projects, and facilitate communication and collaboration across the organization.
- Act as an extension of the VP of Operations when designated and serve as a mentor to junior members of the leadership team, potentially managing direct reports.
- Manage processes and workflows to ensure consistent and quality operations, including the development and advancement of internal training programs.
- Work with development and program management teams to plan, staff, and budget for projects and contracts.
- Provide constructive and collaborative feedback and input into program scoping efforts, product roadmaps, technical design efforts, etc.
- Build a culture of partnership, ownership, trust, and support across programs, engineering, and operations.
- Conduct routine and on-demand headcount planning exercises and coordinate with HR / TA on staffing processes.
- Plan support infrastructure, including the overall facilities footprint and support equipment.
- Review work streams and processes to identify operational needs and inefficiencies, and develop and implement necessary improvements.
- Define KPIs and other methods to measure metrics that best translate progress toward goals.
- Understand or strive to learn the technical concepts, architecture, and systems development methods associated with the Motional Engineering team.
- Ensure daily operational processes are conducted as expected, including but not limited to assignments, start-of-shift egress, out-of-office management, pre-briefs, and debriefs.
- Respond to service problems, including rerouting, accidents, and incidents, with the goal of restoring interrupted service and testing; support drivers in preparing accident reports, including post-accident drug and alcohol testing per policy.
- Investigate and respond to unsafe location / situation reports; make recommendations and / or changes to resolve unsafe situations.
