Position Overview:
Motiva is looking to hire Instrument Technicians to join our Refinery and Chemicals Facility in Port Arthur. The Instrument Technician performs maintenance, troubleshoots, tests, installs, calibrates, and repairs process control instruments at the facility.
Instrument Technician roles located at Motiva’s Refinery are Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated positions, and are subject to drug and alcohol testing in compliance with DOT regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and repair safety shutdown systems.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair control valves.
- Troubleshoot and repair level, temperature, pressure, and flow measure equipment.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, configure, and repair electronic transmitters.
- Overhaul, repair, and calibrate displacer level controls.
- Execute preventative maintenance on all instrumentation equipment.
- Read and interpret wire diagrams, spec sheets, loop drawings, and P&ID’s.
- Update, document, and provide reports using computer systems and software.
- Interface with operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel.
- Develop and improve maintenance procedures.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- 3 years of experience working as an Instrument or Analyzer Technician OR must have an Associate’s degree or equivalent certification in Instrumentation
- Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card
Physical Requirements:
- Willing and able to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation
- Willing and able to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation
- Must be willing and able to work at heights, walk on high elevation grating and to walk up and down stairs with or without accommodation
- Motiva emphasizes safety in all phases of its business, therefore, with proper training, you must be willing to use safe lifting techniques to lift 50 pounds from the ground to waist level with or without accommodation
- Must be willing and able to work in self-contained breathing apparatus
This role is subject to a pre-hire physical abilities test.

- Must be willing and able to be on call and meet callout standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies
