About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate Consultant to join our team. This role is crucial in driving sustainability initiatives, developing, directing, and implementing sustainability strategies, and working closely with clients to meet their corporate sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of sustainability practices, excellent project management skills, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. The candidate will play an instrumental role in driving revenue growth in sustainability strategy, particularly in relation to the work of the NPUC.

Responsibilities
- NPUC Vision and Implementation
- Shaping Future Direction: Contribute to defining the future direction of the National Public Utilities Council (NPUC) by identifying new reporting and analysis requirements for the utility industry.
- Developing Solutions: Lead efforts to create comprehensive solutions for NPUC-related projects.
- Collaborative Support: Utilize support from Motive Power to develop and implement these solutions effectively.
- Decarbonization Consulting Growth
- Partnership Development: Expand our decarbonization consulting services by leveraging both existing and new connections to establish partnerships and drive consulting projects.
- Solution Integration: Apply current Motive Power solutions to address decarbonization challenges faced by utilities.
- Solution Innovation: Identify and develop new solution sets to drive business growth within the decarbonization consulting sector.
- Training Support: Support internal training initiatives to enhance knowledge and best practices in decarbonization consulting, ensuring skill sets are available for project needs.
- Collaboration: Work with Account Leads and Delivery Leads to identify and address areas where decarbonization expertise can be applied effectively.
- Proposal Management: Lead the development of proposals and responses to RFPs related to decarbonization projects.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Exposure to and understanding of energy, climate, and natural resources issues, topics, and sectors
- Proven experience in developing and managing GHG inventories, with the ability to measure emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3; this includes thorough knowledge of sector-specific emissions within various industries, such as agriculture, transportation, and energy generation
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
Preferred
- Advanced degree in energy and environmental science, business, policy, sustainability, or other related fields
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in sustainability consulting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role focused on identifying business opportunities and addressing team gaps.
- Experience working with utilities, government and public sector clients, including international development organizations, defense, and national security entities
- Experience in modeling emissions reduction strategies and comparing them against business as-usual emissions forecasts; this includes researching potential for emissions reduction over time and making informed estimates of co-benefits and co-pollutants
- Proficiency in analyzing emissions and energy use data to identify trends, outliers, and opportunities for targeted intervention
- Experience in developing marginal abatement cost curves and conducting cost-benefit analyses of sustainability projects to identify the most impactful and cost-effective strategies
- Understanding of the major reporting standards such as: CDP, TCFD, SASB, GRI, and EEI.
