Overview
The Sales Associate is responsible for greeting and providing excellent customer service to Museum Store customers. He or she provides excellent customer service by assisting customers with merchandise and answering their questions in person or on the phone, processing phone orders and ringing up transactions. This position is for Summer 2025.
Essential Functions
- Greet and engage all customers.
- Promptly and professionally assist customers by answering questions, demonstrating proper use of merchandise, upselling merchandise, handling phone orders, answering museum phone, ringing transactions and informing them of our membership program, special offers, discounts, promotions and special events.
- Assist with the replenishment and maintenance of merchandise.
- Assist with loss prevention by monitoring suspicious behaviors of customers and reporting all suspicions to Retail Operations Manager or Inventory Coordinator.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, and members of the community.
- Exercise tact and diplomacy at all times.
- Demonstrate an understanding of protocol and sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Gain a general understanding and is able to interpret Museum policies, procedures and offerings.
- Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the exhibits and services available.

Work Environment
This position operates in a public environment. This role routinely uses a POS system, phones, walkie talkies, and packaging equipment. Occasionally, this role uses a ladder or step stool.
Physical Demands / Strength
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift up to 20 pounds, carry. Climb, stoop, balance, kneel, reach, handle, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and use repetitive motions as well as have eye / hand / foot coordination. The employee is frequently required to stand, but may sit if needed. The position requires light to medium work with little physical effort.
