What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Child & Adolescent Health position at Mott Children's Health Center?
The Director, Child of Adolescent Health (CAH) will provide primary executive clinical leadership of the CAH Department including pediatrics, specialty clinics, community-based services, and school-based clinics. The Director may have a future opportunity to lead behavioral health, audiology, rehabilitation services, and growth initiatives.
The Director will provide leadership, direction, and consultation to MCHC’s clinical providers, senior administrators, and associates. Develop and expand collaborative partnerships with community, state, and federal agencies for the purpose of promoting child and adolescent health services. Be a key partner to President/CEO on
developing and executing the Strategic Plan. Assist in creating an ‘employer of choice’ culture at MCHC. Provide direct and indirect supervision, including recruitment, evaluation, and training associates in assigned areas of responsibility. May also provide direct clinical service as necessary and appropriate given clinical credentials.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leadership
- Provides direct/indirect supervision and monitors performance of Clinical Services staff within the department. Recruits, evaluates, and trains associates in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Assesses, monitors, and ensures quality standards, corporate compliance and revenue from insurance reimbursement audits are maintained for all areas of responsibility.
- In collaboration with the President, prepares, implements, and monitors the annual departmental budget.
Administration
- Works collaboratively with the President in establishing and implementing short- and long-range goals and objectives for the department. Monitors the status of the objectives to ensure they are achieved and makes recommendations for adjustments based on empirical data, if necessary.
- Provides consultation to President, leaders, clinical providers, and associates regarding MCHC outreach and community service delivery and/or special projects.
- Participate in the review, analysis, interpretation, and revision of policies and procedures.
- Serves as a member of the Leadership Team and various committees including Safety and HIPPA/Privacy.
- Proactively manages clinical performance including ongoing program evaluation, process improvement/ review and revising policies/procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Clinical Care
- Serves as Clinical Director, provides clinical leadership across identified clinical programs. (The specific programs included are subject to change based on the continued growth and evolution of MCHC.)
- Provides clinical care including dispensing medications, assisting with minor surgical procedures, and other treatments, if needed and appropriate given clinical credentials.
- Leads clinical quality assurance and improvement efforts for assigned clinical areas.
Community Collaboration
- Leads the evaluation of community health needs.
- Collaborates with administration, clinical providers, and community partners in the development of innovative evidence-based on site and community-based initiatives to maximize the impact of MCHC resources.
- Serves on assigned committees both internal and external focusing on health care related issues to promote service delivery, reform, and improve health outcomes.
- Prepares/releases reports and acts as pediatric spokesperson as assigned by the President to promote awareness of and support for internal and external programs and to advocate for children’s health.
Education/Research
- Participates in the development/implementation of departmental training plans, staff education, prevention/intervention initiatives, and research programs.
- Assists in the expansion of teaching relationships with accredited universities, as necessary.
- Participates in providing instruction and oversight of clinical student interns and residents as applicable.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare reports and presentations as needed, including for Leadership Team, Board and Committee meetings.
- Serves as a staff attendee at the MCHC Board Program Committee, MCHC Corporate Compliance Committee and other various MCHC Committees as assigned. (Some of these meetings are after hours.)
- Prepare presentations and presents to the Board of Directors and related Committees as requested
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- This position requires a high level of leadership, administrative, and clinical experience earned through ten years or more of experience in healthcare administration and clinical service, including leadership of clinical staff.
- Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), or Registered Nurse (RN) with pediatric specialty preferred, with valid Michigan license to practice the profession.
- Additional training or experience in child health programs, interdisciplinary care, or the public health field preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and program development experience are required, with evidence of successful clinical leadership and community involvement.
- Personal qualities of unquestioned integrity, professional dedication, servant leadership and commitment to the basic tenets of MCHC’s service mission and Core Values are required.
- Other attributes of exemplary communication and team building skills are also required.
- Experience working on or with a Board of Directors and related Committee structure.
- Computer Skills Level Required
- Basic – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Intermediate – Microsoft Outlook
- Advanced – EHR/EMR/EPM, experience with eCW a plus
- Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 insurance coverage or available transportation to travel for the purposes of required MCHC business.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in an office/clinic environment with no unusual discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or exposure to hazardous materials.
- Regularly experiences (more than 80% of the time) mental/visual fatigue.
