Compensation Details

Starting salary is dependent on education, directly related experience and internal equity. After completing the second probationary semester, the potential exists to earn additional compensation by teaching overload and spring / summer sessions. This additional compensation varies based on several factors, including educational level and step. For example, a faculty member with a Master' s degree at Step 0 who teaches 10 hours of overload during the fall and winter semesters would earn an additional $18,000. Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job :

Faculty play a vital role in facilitating student learning and actively engaging in efforts to improve

student success. As learning facilitators, faculty regularly assess both student learning outcomes and their own teaching practices to enhance effectiveness (pedagogy). Faculty are expected to uphold the ethical standards of their profession, as outlined by organizations such as the National Education Association (NEA) and the State of Michigan. When applicable, they must maintain relevant licensure and certifications. In addition to teaching, full-time faculty are responsible for several key areas, which are detailed in the Essential Duties / Major Accountabilities section. These responsibilities include :

Specific Teaching Assignment :

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses in advanced manufacturing, including machining, CNC, and CAD / CAM. Additional assignments may include courses in Metallurgy and Materials. There is potential for teaching related subjects if the faculty member possesses the appropriate skills and credentials. These areas may include :

  • Fluid Power
  • Robotics
  • Precision Measurement
  • Industrial Safety
  • Quality Assurance
  • Supervisory Responsibility :

    Faculty may occasionally be called upon to perform quasi-supervisory responsibilities, particularly when serving in a Coordinator or Chair role.

    Minimum Requirements

    To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty

    satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required :

    Educational Requirements

  • 1. Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Applied Technology, Industrial / Technical Engineering, or a related field;
  • Associate Degree with 4,000 hours of verifiable experience in machining or a tool- and-die environment or other industry related field;
  • Associate Degree and an advanced professional credential, such as a Journey card in Machining or Tool-and-Die.
  • Note : All degrees must be from an accredited institution.

    Foreign degrees must be certified by a professional evaluation service at the candidate's expense.

    2. At least two (2) years of practical experience in :

  • Operating manual milling machines, lathes, and other machining lab equipment (e.g., drill presses, surface grinders, band saws).
  • Knowledge of Fluid Power, Robotics, Precision Measurement, Industrial Safety and Quality Assurance
  • Setting up, operating, and programming CNC mills and lathes.
  • Utilizing CAD / CAM applications.
  • 3. Technical Proficiency :

  • Ability to integrate computer applications into teaching effectively.
  • Additional Desirable Qualifications

    1. College-level teaching experience.

    2. Certifications related to advanced manufacturing, such as Journey cards or other industry- recognized credentials.

    3. Experience teaching material science, composites, or metallurgy.

    Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

    1. Ability to move around two-thirds of the time and remain stationary for up to one-third of the time.

    2. Mobility to navigate campus and engage in participant activities.

    3. Capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    4. Tolerance for frequent exposure to fumes, chemicals, and industry-related noises, including the ability to :

  • Handle and mix chemicals safely and properly.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work Schedule

    Full-time faculty are primarily obligated to teach during the fall and winter semesters. However, the nature of their role requires fulfilling professional responsibilities throughout the year.
