Position: Bus Driver

Direct Supervisor: Orchard Manager
Compensation: $21 - $24 per hour
Position Summary:
The Mount Adams Fruit (the Orchard Division) is looking for an experienced, dependable, and flexible bus driver to transport orchard workers in the evening or weekends from the orchard into town, and sometimes between orchards. Occasionally, trips to the PDX airport may be necessary. Bus drivers play a key role in supporting orchard operations by safely transporting our workers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform beginning-shift vehicle inspections before departure.
- Complete bus route on schedule while stopping at all stops.
- Communicate with workers about departure and route as necessary.
- Safely transport goods and workers.
- Report all mechanical issues to orchard main mechanic or orchard manager immediately.
- Always maintain a clean and sanitary bus.
- Safe and Efficient Operation: Operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) in compliance with all applicable traffic laws, regulations, and company policies. Maintain a strong focus on safety while driving, loading, and unloading fruit.
- Route Planning and Navigation: Plan the most efficient route based on delivery schedules, traffic conditions, and road restrictions. Utilize GPS systems, maps, and other tools to navigate accurately and make timely deliveries.
- Customer Service: Interact professionally with Supervisors and personnel during pickups and deliveries. Provide assistance as needed, address inquiries or concerns, and maintain a positive representation of the Company.
- Maintains driver log according to I.C. Regulations
- Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload people onto the bus. Follow established procedures for securing the cargo to minimize movement during transportation.
- Practices defensive driving and safe driving practices at all times
- Compliance: Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations governing transportation and the handling of passengers. Comply with industry-specific guidelines and standards, such as the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Follow all Plant Safety requirements and adhere to the Company Handbook.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Physical Stamina: The job may involve long hours of driving, loading, and unloading people. You should have the physical stamina to remain alert and focused during extended periods of work.
- Mobility: You should have good mobility and flexibility to climb in and out of the bus. This includes the ability to bend, stoop, and reach comfortably.
- Manual Dexterity: Operating various bus controls, securing cargo, and completing paperwork may require good manual dexterity. You must be able to handle paperwork and operate equipment with precision.
- Visual Acuity: Clear vision, both near and far, is important for safe driving. You should have good visual acuity, including peripheral vision, to monitor traffic, read road signs, and navigate effectively.
- Hearing Ability: Adequate hearing is necessary to perceive sounds and warnings on the road, such as sirens, horns, or other vehicles. You should be able to communicate effectively with others and hear instructions or alerts.
- Ability to Sit for Extended Periods: Bus drivers spend a significant amount of time sitting behind the wheel. You must be comfortable sitting for extended periods without discomfort or health issues.
- Health and Wellness: Maintaining good overall health is crucial for a bus driver. You should be physically fit, have normal blood pressure, and not suffer from conditions that may impair your ability to drive safely.
- Must undergo and pass all required drug &/or alcohol testing according to Company policy and the FMCSA.
Experience/Education:
- Valid Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements for transporting people.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
- Registered or willing to register with the FMCSA and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for transporting people.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELD) and transportation management systems (TMS) is a plus.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
