MAMS - 1-1 Personal Care Assistant

Key Responsibilities:

• • Support Self-Care Needs: Assist students with personal hygiene tasks, such as toileting, dressing, hand-washing, feeding, and grooming. Ensure that students’ needs are met while respecting their dignity and privacy.
  • Promote Independence: Help students maintain their ability to perform self-care tasks independently to the fullest extent possible.
  • Collaborate with Teachers: Work closely with classroom teachers and special education staff to implement individualized support plans and strategies.
  • Provide Emotional Support: Offer encouragement and emotional support to students, creating a safe and positive environment for learning and personal growth.
  • Assist with Classroom Activities: When appropriate, assist students with transitioning between classes or engaging in other classroom activities, ensuring that students are supported throughout the school day.

  Necessary Skills

• • Patience and compassion when working with students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff.
  • Familiarity with special education laws, IEPs, and behavior management strategies is helpful.
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in challenging situations.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to assist students with physical tasks such as lifting, positioning, and transferring (when applicable).
• Ability to bend, kneel, and move throughout the school day.
