Mount Baker Theatre (MBT) is seeking a dynamic Marketing Director to join our Leadership team and help us write the next chapter in our gorgeous historic facility!

JOB DETAILS:

Job Title: Marketing Director

Job Type: Full Time

Schedule: Daytime, occasional evenings, and weekends based on events and theatre functions.

Location: Mount Baker Theatre – 104 North Commercial Street, Bellingham WA

Reports To: Executive Director

Job Summary

The Marketing Director leads all of the theatre’s marketing activities and staff to further the organization’s mission of enriching our region's culture through dynamic performances, arts education, inspiring engagement in the community, and stewardship of a national historic treasure.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Hires and supervises marketing staff, including digital marketing and graphic design positions.

2. Utilizes internal and external research to develop, implement, and track the results of comprehensive marketing plans and assist the organization in making informed decisions.

3. Generates content and collaboratively leads the development, production, and distribution of all marketing campaigns and materials—including strategy, concept, creative direction, layout, copywriting, and production—for all institutional and MBT-presented programs (e.g., season and individual show ticket sales, development activities, concessions, venue rental, volunteer recruitment, and institutional branding). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Print advertising: publication ads, mailings, large format print, brochures, flyers, and posters
  • Digital advertising: social media (buys and content), display, SEO, SEM, pre-roll, and email lifecycle marketing
  • Media buys: TV and radio
  • External communications: Email, press releases, and articles

4. Directs website content management, creation, and updating.

5. Generates institutional storytelling and other marketing strategies that enhance public relations and community involvement, including branding, language for specific initiatives, talking points to stakeholders, and data points that emphasize MBT’s values.

6. Maintains media lists, advertising partner contacts, and other external collaborative partnerships

7. As a member of the Leadership Team, responsible for collaboratively setting and achieving approved income and expense budget goals, especially those related to sales (e.g., tickets, patron fees, venue rental, marketing services, concessions) and donations (e.g., sponsorships, advertising, memberships, capital fund, scholarships).

8. Budgets, tracks, reconciles, and submits timely reports for all marketing activities.

9. Develops, negotiates, and manages all media contracts, ad buys, print costs, and supplies within budgeted income and expense goals.

10. Provides input on MBT programming decisions by contributing data on our existing audience's purchasing behavior, regional market research on our potential audience, and other insights such as local partnership opportunities.

11. Other duties as specified by the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications

1. Minimum of 5 years of relevant marketing experience.

2. Training in the theory and practice of using marketing industry software to engage new and returning customers (ticket purchasers and donors, preferably).

3. Passion for the performing arts.

4. Exceptional writer, copy editor, and creative content creator across media (e.g. social media, newsletter, donor and community-facing collateral, video, presentations).

5. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills with an ability to keep multiple projects on track, anticipate obstacles, adapt to change, and ensure open and effective communication with internal and external partners.

6. A strategic thinker able to create, execute, and use data to improve our marketing for the current and future needs of the theatre.

7. Experience working with people with diverse professional, cultural, and social perspectives.

8. Ability to thrive in a complex and fast-paced environment under pressure and during periods of change.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working in the performing arts.

2. Working knowledge of CRM systems such as Tessitura.

3. Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to contribute as a visionary member of an executive team.

4. Experience managing large-scale direct mail, email, and social and other media campaigns.

5. Experience negotiating and managing advertising contracts and media buys.

6. Experience developing and managing budgets

7. Event sales experience.

8. Experience working with 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

9. Experience putting on public events.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, typically 8:30am to 5:30pm with work that can extend beyond the usual workday timeframe. Evening and weekend work as needed for significant public events at the theatre and elsewhere.

Physical Requirements

The work is performed in an office setting, or hybrid (remote and in-person). This position will require an in-office presence multiple days a week and working on a computer for extended periods. Team efforts to support events may require periods of physical activity involving standing, walking, and moderate lifting. Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $80,000 to $100,000
