Position Purpose :
The Diabetes Educator casual position will be to backup and / or augment our Full-time Diabetes Educators covering both inpatient consults and outpatient referrals for patients with Diabetes. The Educator will be spending focused time with direct patient care to enhance the patients understanding of how to best self-manage their diabetes. This position will require travel between Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel St. Ann's, and Mount Carmel Grove City.
Patient Educator, within the scope of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, the American Dietetics Association and the Ohio Dietetics Association, and / or Ohio Board of Pharmacy functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization. The Patient Educator, specific to Diabetes Education, provides consultation and diabetes education to patients, families, staff and physicians, assumes a leadership role in issues relating to diabetes and acts as a change agent to support institutional initiatives pertaining to the care of patients who have diabetes.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Education : Graduate from school of nursing, dietetics or pharmacy. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Licensure / Certification : Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse, registered and licensed dietitian or registered pharmacist in the State of Ohio. Professional certification preferred
- Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years recent experience in area of specialization preferred
- Demonstrates leadership and teaching experience
- Demonstrates ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member and able to manage stressful situations
- BLS Healthcare Provider training required
