Summary:

Assists with labor and delivery and provides care to the newborn and postpartum mother.

Requirements

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1.  Current Maine RN license.  
2. Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE.
3. National certification encouraged. 

Experience Required:

1.  Proficient in nursing process.
2.  Proficient in Medication administration.
3.  One year acute care experience
4. Perinatal nursing experience preferred.
5. Proficient Fetal Monitoring

Special Requirements:

1.  Proficient IV skills. 
2.  Familiarity with computer applications 
3.  Emotional maturity.
4.  Good people skills.
5. Participates in perinatal education conferences. 
6.  Proficient patient assessment skills.

Cognitive Requirements:

1.  Able to collect, sort, and prioritize data.
2.  Ability to process complex clinical information and respond appropriately.
3.  Ability to learn new techniques and incorporate them into nursing practice.

Physical Demands:

1.  Ability to stand/walk for 8-12 hour shifts.
2.  Adequate hearing, vision, speech, and manual dexterity.
3.  Ability to lift/carry 25-50 lbs.
4.  Ability to perform under stress.
5.  General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.

Environment:

1.  Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
2.  Potential for exposure to infectious diseases.
3.  Potential for periods of high stress. 4. Use of telephone, computers, telemedicine equipment and VDT.

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

2.  American Heart Association (AHA)-Basic Cadiac Life Support (BCLS).
3.  Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
4. STABLE Certification
5. Annual electronic fetal monitoring principles education/assessment
6.  National certification in specialty (encouraged).
7.  American Heart Association (AHA)-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
8.  Participates in prenatal education conferences. 
9.  Certified Lactation Counselor certification (encouraged).
