Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, the Assistant/Associate Vice President for Inclusion and Innovation will be a highly visible leader within the institution, serving alongside the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion as a senior administrative figure. This role is central to creating organizational effectiveness and advancing innovative strategies to embed inclusive excellence throughout the College. The AVP will oversee the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, supervising a team of educators and practitioners. In addition, they will collaborate with key constituencies across campus to design educational curricula, training, policies, strategies, and programs with a focus on inclusion, equity, and strategic innovation.
The AVP will work closely with the College’s senior leadership and the Alum Association as both a thought partner and collaborator. As a member of the Leadership Council, the AVP will manage data collection, analysis, and reporting for the DEI Office, supporting the College’s efforts to track campus-wide progress on inclusion initiatives. They will lead the development of innovative strategies to provide support, resources, leadership development, and community-building opportunities for employees. The AVP will assist in developing criteria to assess DEI initiatives and, using a data-informed approach, will guide the implementation of new strategies. They will manage the daily operations of the DEI Office, supporting the creation and execution of campus-wide diversity action plans aligned with the College’s strategic goals. With expertise in campus climate issues, the AVP will also help develop a DEI framework focused on capacity building through curricula, training programs, and workshops to enhance learning and engagement across the College community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Operations:
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, overseeing key DEI staff members.
- Design, implement, and evaluate DEI curricula, training programs, and strategies that promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging across campus.
- Collaborates with the Department of Human Resources on targeted initiatives to attract and retain talent, ensuring the College fosters a diverse and inclusive workforce.
- Leads efforts to develop affinity-based programs, enhance the hiring and recruitment process through data-driven strategies, and create essential resources to support historically excluded and underrepresented faculty and staff.
Strategic Innovation and Program Development:
- Designs and oversees educational training programs that enhance capacity for understanding diverse perspectives, foster psychological safety, support personal growth, and promote a sense of belonging for all community members.
- Utilizes a variety of strategic indicators and metrics to continuously learn from the experiences of historically excluded, underrepresented, and affinity-based groups, assessing the College’s efforts to support these alumni, students, faculty, and staff.
- Analyzes data thoughtfully and, when necessary, develops responsive initiatives to address campus culture and enhance support for impacted groups. Provides regular reports on this data to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion and other campus leaders.
Alum Engagement and Community Building:
- With 25% of the role specifically focused on alum engagement, the AVP will work closely with the Executive Director of the Alum Association to identify and implement strategies for advancing the vision for DEI within the Association.
- Collaborates with the Alum Association staff and Board of Directors to support the development of a strategic plan for diversity, with a specific focus on engaging diverse alums and building capacity among staff and volunteers across departments who work closely with alums.
Collaboration and Campus Engagement:
- Leads strategic, campus-wide data collection efforts and works collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness, as well as departments and divisions across campus, to develop strategic diversity action plans.
- Creates and implements a vision for strategic engagement with students, faculty, staff, and alums.
- Makes data-driven determinations about the structures and processes needed for the department to excel in providing support to the broader campus community.
- Collaborates with other senior leaders at the College to recruit and retain underrepresented employees and students.
Communication and Training:
- Works collaboratively with key DEI staff to develop and disseminate DEI communications. Supports the DEI Office with the coordination of its content strategy when communicating with faculty, staff, students, and alums.
- The AVP will be a key College communicator on DEI, chair of mission-critical committees, and work in an advisory capacity, as needed, to support senior leaders who have diversity initiatives they seek to implement.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree with at least 8-10 years of experience working in diversity, equity, and inclusion or another closely related field.
- Experience as an assistant or associate dean, director, or senior director of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated collaborative decision-making and project management skills.
- Must be organized, with exceptional attention to detail, and possess effective communication and project management skills.
- Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
- Thrive in a professional and fast-paced work environment, with the ability to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- Must be able to work as a team player and use good judgment.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, exhibiting tact, grace, discretion, and a sense of calm.
Preferred Qualifications and Attributes
- Ph.D./Ed.D. preferred.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in an academic institution of higher education.
- Strong relationships with alum communities.
- Experience serving as a strategic, values-based leader and thought partner.
- Advanced knowledge of analytical, statistical, and data visualization tools.
- Strong budget management skills.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Requires high level of daily social contact and communication with students, alums, staff and faculty by telephone, e-mail and/or in person.
- Mostly an indoor work environment.
- Flexible, hybrid working environment.
- Will require irregular hours such as evening and weekend events particularly for programs engaging campus community members.
Hiring Range $109,750 - $123,654
