The Facilities Management Department at Mount Holyoke College is looking for a dedicated Boiler Operator to join our team in managing the operations of our high-pressure boiler plant. Job Description:

Unique Position Type / Hours:
- Bargaining Unit, 12-hour rotating shift position during the academic year (September-May)
- Day shift position Monday-Friday 6 am-2:30 pm during the summer months (May-August)
- Sign the Massachusetts state log book at the beginning of each shift, acknowledging responsibility for safety and operation under a Massachusetts Second Class Engineer.
- Review and complete daily logs of gas fuel, steam generation, and domestic water usage, calculating plant efficiency to meet state environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular checks of water columns, low water cut outs, and high water alarms to ensure proper functioning.
- Collect and test daily water samples for boiler water chemistry.
- Inspect all equipment every two hours to verify proper operation and compliance with safety requirements set by the State of Massachusetts.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for repairs, overseeing their work as needed.
- Respond to emergencies involving natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, high-pressure steam, compressed air, and domestic water systems.
- Possess a Valid Massachusetts Third Class Steam Engineer license.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a modern power plant, focusing on turbine generators and routine boiler maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to work overtime.
- Knowledge and experience in operating and maintaining power plant auxiliary equipment.
- Respirator training

- SPCC training
- Asbestos training
