Mount Laurel Animal Hospital offers aspiring veterinary professionals the opportunity to pursue their dreams and turn their passion for learning into a stepping stone for a successful career! We take the health and well-being of our employees seriously, offering flexible working conditions and encouraging a well-rounded work/life balance. Our employees’ quality of life outside of the practice is something we strongly value and support. We are conveniently located 1 hour from New York City and New Jersey shore towns making us an excellent choice to work and play! It’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle.

Program Description: Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is looking to hire veterinarians to join our rapidly growing team. This unique opportunity is available to new graduates or veterinarians interested in beginning a career in emergency veterinary medicine. While this position is not a traditional rotating internship to be used prior to residency, there is a focus on strong mentorship both clinically and didactically. The goal is to train candidates to be confident, competent, productive emergency veterinarians and surgeons by the end of this year-long internship.  The candidate will earn 3-4 times the salary of a traditional intern.  There are significant investments in training and development on behalf of the employer, so continued employment is anticipated (although not required).

Skills & Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and be licensed in the state of NJ (or eligible for licensure). The ideal candidate is highly motivated, organized, and friendly. We are looking for someone who will embrace our philosophy of top-notch customer service, outstanding client and patient care, and teamwork.

Responsibilities of Intern: The year will be divided between daytime and overnight hours to provide a wide range of experiences. One section (of 4-month duration) will be day hospital doctor shifts consisting of three 12-hour shifts and an 8-hour surgery day per week (averaging 42 hours per week). For the 12-hour days, interns/fellows will be expected to manage multiple hospitalized cases and then help with incoming patients as time permits. On surgery days, spays and neuters will be assigned. The second section (of 4-month duration) will be three 12-hour overnight shifts per week (averaging 36 hours per week) and will mainly be focused on managing incoming patients. The third section (also of 4-month duration) involves three 12-hour day shifts managing incoming patients plus a surgery day with a board-certified surgeon training on such procedures as ovariohysterectomies, cystotomies, amputations, mass removals, foreign bodies, etc. Interns/Fellows will also be expected to attend all ER departmental meetings, participate in Fellow Rounds weekly, attend lectures given by our specialists, and attend/give journal clubs and Morbidity & Mortality rounds throughout the year.

Support Provided: The hospital will provide one-on-one instruction/oversight on all cases and surgeries with experienced veterinarians and specialists. In addition, each fellow will be given a 6-week Specialty Block to further their knowledge in Internal Medicine and other specialties of their choice. Weekly rounds on pertinent topics for the interns/fellows are given weekly, as well as lectures periodically given by our specialists.

Compensation: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package will be provided to the right candidates (which on average works out to be about 3-4x that of a traditional internship). Our benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401K match, CE allowance, and 3 weeks of vacation time.

Our Hospital: We are a busy privately-owned specialty, 24/7 emergency, and primary care practice which is built around a collaborative culture. Our team is made up of over 60 veterinarians and board-certified specialists including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, in-house clinical pathology, cardiology, radiology, behavioral medicine, and critical care. We are well staffed with highly trained nurses including veterinary technician specialists, and have all the equipment needed to support our specialists.

Location: Our hospital is located in Mount Laurel, NJ which is a convenient 20-25 minute commute from Philadelphia and only 1 hour drive to the Jersey Shore.
