Lead - ICU Technician

Working Location: Mount Laurel, NJ
Working Hours: Schedule varies; average 35-40 hours per week
Purpose of the Role:
The purpose of this position is to aid in overseeing the day-to-day operations related to the function of the primary care department. The ICU Lead is responsible for providing leadership to their department, ensuring compliance with the practice of veterinary medicine and the hospital’s standards of care by department team members. The lead is also responsible for creating an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine is delivered.
Under the supervision of their respective Nursing Supervisor and the assistance of the Department Head, the Department Leads will work in conjunction with the leads of other specialty departments and the general practice to direct and coordinate positive change as it relates to the office activities, oversee the standards of care in the respective department. Department Leads play a role in helping fulfill MLAH's mission and vision as well as helping create direction for the practice.
The Department Lead may be required to work additional hours beyond a regular clinical work schedule to accomplish the duties of the Department Lead position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement department-specific protocols and procedures with input from designated supervisor and training mentor to improve processes, staff performance, and utilization.
- Assist in formulating objectives and policies to ensure efficient departmental operations.
- Coordinate and participate in departmental meetings as the department's needs dictate.
- Work well with all team members and ensure that actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.
- Provide training on department-specific protocols and SOPs with input and guidance from training mentors, designated supervisors, and the Department Head.
- Disseminate relevant information to additional staff and doctors as indicated.
- Act as a liaison between the department, supervisors, and members of management.
- Perform quarterly designated team member meetings with input from the designated supervisor.
- Proactively provide agenda topics in which discussion is required during meetings.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Mentor and work with departmental staff.
- Assist staff where necessary and foster an educational environment.
- Proactively identify solutions to overcome unexpected volume, delays, staffing shortages, etc.
- Coach employees in the department regarding expectations and performance and lead by example.
- Expected to help enforce hospital policies while on the floor and act as an example for the rest of the staff, regardless of department.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- CVT, LVT, RVT license preferred or a minimum of 3 years of experience in veterinary emergency medicine as a veterinary technician.
