Position Summary: This position will facilitate and organize the utilization of the Health Sciences Center Nursing Skills Lab with collaboration from faculty, staff, and leadership. The coordinator promotes a safe and welcoming learning environment in the lab for nursing students while collaborating with faculty for students success in knowledge, understanding, safety, and critical thinking. Keep current in the occupational field including new developments in practices, techniques, equipment, and regulations. Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with faculty and HSC and Simulation Director/ Manager about needs for the pending semester, concerns, and changes regarding simulation and lab activities.
- Set up all activities and organization of the nursing skills lab.
- Assist students in the practice and reinforcement of skills in the Nursing Skills Lab, in accordance with nursing skills check lists to assure comprehension, use of proper medical terminology, patient safety, and infection control practices.
- Collaborate with lab course faculty to schedule skills competency checkoffs.
- Contribute to curriculum and program review.
- Assist students in remediation of skills or lab makeup in coordination with course faculty.
- Collaborate with Faculty and HSC and Simulation manager/director to complete/maintain lab activity design plans and simulation design plans.
- Facilitate pre-brief and debrief sessions in simulation as needed to support department needs.
- Conduct fit testing for students and assist with the coordination of CPR with RQI station.
- Organize and maintain inventory for the Health Science Center and place order for supplies when needed upon approval.
- Provide tours for potential students and other special interest groups in the Health Science Center.
- In collaboration with manager, delegate and monitor student worker responsibilities.
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for baccalaureate nursing education.
- Work collaboratively across program, school, and campus to maximize interprofessional relationships and success of the nursing program.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in project management; attention to detail; demonstrate flexible and efficient time management.
- Ability to utilize and strong proficiency in current computing technologies, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
- Ability to work in an environment that is fast-paced, has frequent interruptions, and occasional noise in the immediate area.
- Strong knowledge of health assessment and proficiency in nursing skills throughout the nursing curriculum.
- Previous experience working with and supervising nursing students in a skills lab setting within a University (preferred)
- Ability to work as team, with faculty, staff as well as interprofessional team members, but confident enough to work independently as needed.
- Strong Organizational and communication skills.
- Adaptability with schedule to accommodate changes in faculty/lab schedules
- Ability to utilize software for manikins in the lab setting (preferred)
- Previous experience/knowledge in a nursing skills lab (preferred)
- Available to work flexibly to coincide with faculty and student peak hours, special events, etc.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse BSN Required. MSN Preferred.
