What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic Trainer position at Mount Mercy University?
Position Summary
Mount Mercy University is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, athletic trainer with a July 1, 2025, start date. Responsibilities to include providing athletic training coverage at practices and competitions; evaluation of injuries; recommendation for proper care or medical treatment; supervising the rehabilitation of a student-athletes with athletic injury; serves as liaison between the injured student-athlete, sports medicine physician, and physical/occupational therapist; educates and counsels student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition and exercise to improve overall student-athlete health; ensures compliance with university and conference policies and procedures; keeps up-to-date on current developments in athletic training methods and technology and will travel to post-season events with assigned athletic teams.
Qualifications
There also may be an opportunity to teach within our Exercise Science department for those that meet qualifications.
A Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field is preferred. Exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will be considered. A minimum of one to two years of athletic training experience is preferred.
The following licenses are required: Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Iowa; National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification; and CPR or EMT certification.
A valid driver’s license is required.
