What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Music and Arts position at Mount Olive Baptist Church?
Mount Olive Baptist Church is seeking a passionate person to lead and inspire the musical development of our children and youth and to work with our entire musci ministry to achieve excellence in worship.
The Assistant Director of Music and Arts serves under the Minister of Worship & Arts to assist in executing the vision of the music and arts ministry. The incumbent will understand the pastoral vision for worship while incorporating all aspects of cultural arts: dance, all styles of music, drama, and praise and worship. The incumbent will participate in planning and developing multi-generational music and arts in the church’s worship experiences and community events. The incumbent will also provide key leadership and administrative support to the ministry.
One primary focus of the incumbent is to reestablish and strengthen our children and youth choir, offering the children of the congregation the gift of music as a profound way to connect with God and with humanity.
This person will create musical opportunities for all interested children and collaborate with the Minister of Worship & Arts, staff, and lay leaders to create cohesive worship services and carry out programming.
Skills and Qualifications
- The incumbent must be able to read music and have strong musical playing skills, with proficiency in teaching voice parts. (Hammond organ, keyboard, or piano is required).
- Ability to teach musical parts to adults and youth with diverse musical skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. The ability to interact well with others.
- Familiarity with contemporary gospel music and willingness to learn traditional hymns and gospel music.
- Must have a heart to serve with a spirit of excellence while exhibiting patience with others serving in the ministry.
- A strong Christian faith and a passion for multigenerational worship, including youth ministry.
Previous experience directing children’s and youth choirs, particularly in a church setting, is preferred
A degree in music or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
