Position Description :
- Oversees GIS map maintenance activities, processes, and quality assurance. Defines data editing tools, environments, and processes for the department. Maintains water and wastewater feature datasets by incorporating new developer and capital project data, field changes, and improvements from various sources, including AutoCAD drawings, field markups, and construction drawings.
- Maintains MPW’s GIS web mapping applications using ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Geocortex. Ensures these applications function properly, troubleshoots technical problems, and provides resolutions. Updates cartographic designs, display elements, and the functionality of user interfaces.
- Monitors and administers GIS user activity, maintains database efficiency, and performs table and feature class copies and imports within the GIS database environment. Runs and maintains ModelBuilder projects and Python scripts.
- Coordinates and conducts one-on-one user support and training. Provides front-line help desk support for web applications and desktop clients. Troubleshoots and resolves technical software problems, installs applications on user desktops, and offers training and support as needed for successful implementation.
- Assists customers in determining the availability of water and wastewater services, assessing their needs, and defining the scopes of water and wastewater projects. Provides map information, including GIS maps, as-built drawings, historical customer information, and construction drawings. Interprets maps and drawings to determine water and wastewater connection options.
- Oversees and maintains the GIS feature class for customers, ensuring all customer and account information is accurately represented in the GIS map system. Updates account information, service addresses, meter zones, cycles, books, and sequences in the database. Ensures data consistency between the CIS Infinity Customer Information System and Maximo's Computer Maintenance Management System. Supports other GIS integrations as needed.
- Provides support for GPS projects and defines GIS data processing tools to manipulate and convert databases to meet internal and external requirements. Supports the development of GPS technical procedures and data collection for database maintenance. Performs field verification of GPS data and checks the operability of GPS equipment. Conducts GPS data collection as needed and ensures consistent data transfer between field data and the GIS database.
- Researches records, maps, and other data to obtain typical engineering and cartographic information, such as the locations of sewer taps, water mains, hydrants, and other water and wastewater field data. Investigates land records to determine zoning, ownership, municipality, and easement / plat information. Organizes drawing files, including electronic drawings, within a records management system. Prepares maps, drawings, sketches, graphics, and charts for presentations to MPW Commissioners, the public, or other departments.
- Performs GIS electronic file administration and technical reviews of geographic information to assess accuracy and usability. Reviews AutoCAD as-built drawings of water and sewer projects to ensure they meet MPW's geographic standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
