JOB SUMMARY:
The Qualified Paraprofessional in Mental Health-Adult (QPPMH-A) is responsible for providing skills building (supportive and educational services) and assistance to individuals receiving Mental Health Skill Building Services. QPPMH-As are responsible for individuals' related documentation and reports as well as the implementation of treatment goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attend and participate in staff meetings for a schedule of assignments and to discuss issues related to individual and program needs.
- Provide intensive training to individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) diagnosis to promote independence in the community. Examples may include, but are not limited to, providing training in social skills, medication management, personal hygiene, household, cooking skills, and recreation.
- Responsible for maintaining daily recordkeeping as service is delivered as best practice and completing monthly updates to the Case Manager as assigned. Responsible to collect data of the needs of individuals served and meet regulatory requirements. Complete required documentation in a timely manner to include case records, progress notes, and document services rendered.
- As needed, provide informal counseling/crisis interventions to individuals receiving services.
- On an ongoing basis, monitor potential side effects of medications and mental health stability in order to access clinical services to avoid re-hospitalization.
- Work closely with Mental Health Skills building staff and Case Managers to ensure effective person-centered wraparound services that are consistent with the overall service goals for the individual.
- Assist/train in community integration needs to include scheduled appointments, social and recreational activities, shopping trips, banking needs, pharmacy, food banks, and other agency and community programs.
- Maintain required certifications and attend mandatory training.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Must be willing to work hours, which coincide with the individual’s needs.
- As assigned to include overnight trips such as but not limited to attend SCA retreats, VAPRA Conference, and CERC training.
- Responsible for monitoring car maintenance needs and observing safety protocols when transporting individuals.
- Perform such other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to interact with people in a supportive/person-centered and therapeutic manner.
- Knowledge of the nature of mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse disorders.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Financial and money management skills.
- Skills in data collection and recordkeeping.
- Able to implement service plans for individuals with SMI.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Requires a high level of self-motivation and accountability to individuals, program, and the Agency.
Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
"Qualified Paraprofessional in Mental Health (QPPMH)" means a person who must, at a minimum, meet one of the following criteria:
(i) registered with the United States Psychiatric Association (USPRA) as an Associate Psychiatric Rehabilitation Provider (APRP).
(ii) has an associate degree in a related field (social work, psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, sociology, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, human services counseling) and at least one (1) year of experience providing direct services to individuals with a diagnosis of mental illness; or
(iii) has a minimum of ninety (90) hours classroom training and twelve (12) weeks of experience under the direct personal supervision of a QMHP-Adult providing services to individuals with mental illness and at least (1) one year of experience (including the twelve (12) weeks of supervised experience).
Valid Driver's license and safe driving record required.
