The Peer Recovery Specialist will assist individuals with substance use and mental health disorders in their recovery process. This role is for someone who has experienced stable, sustained recovery from substance use services and is willing to share their personal experience and knowledge to benefit others.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer counseling and support to individuals in recovery, validating their experiences and helping them become actively involved in the process.
- Assist individuals in identifying goals and objectives, determining problems, and discussing possible interventions based on their recovery goals.
- Ongoing observation and communication of an individual's progress with the treatment team.
- Document individual progress according to established methods and procedures.
- Co-facilitate health, wellness, and WRAP classes as needed.
Other Duties
- Complete other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Documentation will be reviewed by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Sustained recovery from substance use disorder (12 months desired).
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience as a recipient of mental health services.
- Valid Virginia driver's license.
- Background check and fingerprinting required.
