Job Title : Patient Care Associate (PCA)
Job Specialty : Psychiatry

Shift : 7AM - 3 : 15PM, Weekend and Holiday availability required
Guaranteed Hours : 37.50 hours per week
Experience : If no Associate's degree : 2 years of experience in law enforcement, nursing, psychiatric / behavioral health, mental health population, counseling, or group family dynamics.
License : N / A
Certifications : BLS (American Heart Association), Certificate of Medical Assistant training, CPI or PMCS certification, SEL and SCR background checks
Must-Have : Knowledge and experience with Epic, Active CPI or PMCS certification prior to offer
Job Description :
- Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing a full range of services to patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatry service.
- Participate in patient admission and orientation to the inpatient unit.
- Assist patients with changing, search patients, secure valuables, review unit rules and regulations, and provide orientation to room and unit.
- Assist with preparation and updating of the Nursing Care Plan and Interdisciplinary Treatment Team Plan, and assist with therapeutic interventions.
- Perform selected direct care duties including therapeutic intervention, taking vital signs and other health-related data, simple dressing changes, collecting sputum, blood, and urine, conducting urine tests, and providing personal hygiene care.
- Assist with the provision of concrete services, such as transportation and obtaining clothes.
- Lead and co-lead various patient activity groups, both recreational and therapeutic.
- Assist with the preparation and implementation of discharge plans, including arranging transportation and maintaining contact with family / others to facilitate patient discharge.
- Act as patient escort both on and off the facility for various appointments and recreational outings as ordered.
- Intervene with physical restraints of violent / aggressive patients and assist with the care of patients in seclusion / restraint according to departmental policy.
- Initiate CPR when necessary and assist the nursing team in carrying out the Code 77 protocol.
- Practice and maintain infection control.
- Maintain an assigned patient caseload, providing ongoing supportive counseling to both the patient and family.
